Study: Fecal Bacteria Found On Most Supermarket Shopping Carts

Next time you head down to your local supermarket, you may be taking your health into own hands — literally.

New research shows that nearly three out of four shopping cart handles are rife with fecal bacteria, including some that can cause severe illness.

Dr. Victoria Millett, a local infectious disease specialist, tells KFWB’s Maggie McKay researchers actually found more fecal bacteria on grocery cart handles than you would typically find in a bathroom.

Professor Charles Gerba, the lead researcher in the University of Arizona study, took samples from the handles of 85 carts across four states for bacterial contamination.

Gerba says 72 percent of the carts tested positive for fecal bacteria, with up to half the samples containing Escherichia coli, otherwise known as E. coli.

It would be interesting to graph the bacteria counts at different types of stores.
Foe example Costco vs Walmart!

People are now too lazy to wash their hands after using the toilet.

Foe shur!

Obviously, the relative hygiene levels at various stores would be reflective of the demographic that frequents those stores...

Yeah. I usually carry around a small bottle of waterless disinfectant. You can get them virtually anywhere.

Yes but it turns out that there's no MRSA at the gym. So it's all good...

And don’t put food on the little kiddie seat. Its handy, but totally gross (grocery stores and little kids).

There's a thought.

Yuck. I can deal with all kinds of stuff (I’ve made it 57 yrs so far; I’m probably immune to a lot of germs), but e coli and its brethren can kill you.

Guess I’m going to have to wimp out and use those disinfecting wipes. How disgusting! Where is the fecal matter coming from? Well, I know where it comes from, but how does it get on cart handles? People not washing their hands? Maybe I should stop shaking hands as well? Double yuck.

Learn to be conscious about wiping/ touching your eyes. The eyes are an excellent entry point for other buggers; moist and full of blood vessels.

Since farts contain fecal matter, do they also carry E.coli? If so, would an SBD in an elevator be considered a terrorist attack? If we’re going to panic over detectable fecal matter on shopping carts (and every other public surface you come into contact with), then we should really be scared when someone weaponizes fecal matter and shoots it straight from the source to your nose and mouth.

That’s not the only problem. I have information from a good friend who works at Von’s. When they had some electrical problems and the lights in the store went out for a while... out came thousands of roaches. When the lights came back on... they scampered underneath all those counters. A special hiding place is the deli areas.... eeewwww.

This is getting totally out of hand...Let me say this loud and clear...FOLKS...THERE ARE GERMS EVERYWHERE IN THIS WORLD...INCLUDING THE OPERATING ROOMS! YES, EVEN THE “BAD” ONES! I’VE STEPPED IN ALL KINDS OF POOP...WIPED MY KIDS BUTT (AND OTHERS) AS CHILDREN. HAD BIRDS HIT A BULLS-EYE ON ME AND NOW THEY SAY I’M GOING TO DIE. Yes...I’m upset...sorry for yelling!

Like Hillary' Gate Cult mentioned, sometimes they are empty.

Stick some in your purse. You can buy them anywhere....and as I mentioned earlier, resist the urge to touch your eyes.

It's a shame that liberals don't do the same.
