This can be a life-threatening condition...
Yikes. Prayers for Serena.
Wow! Good Luck Ms Williams.
What could be "more critical" than a pulmonary embolism? Prayers up!..............
Being in great shape doesn’t mean you might not die....
Good thing they caught it
`roids
Not now.
more critical situation?
The cause of the pulmonary embolism was a broken ankle three months earlier. During this time a small blood clot formed and moved slowly up the leg to the lung. There's usually no symptoms of this.
A pulmonary embolism is no fun. Folks, be aware that a broken bone in the limbs, shoulder and other spots can lead to a blood clot, even weeks or months later. The clot may move to the lungs, the brain or the heart with little or no warning. It can be a fast killer.
I spent a week in the hospital in a very weak state. In today's world you're discharged from a hospital 24 hours after your head is amputated, so you know that an embolism will really waste you when you're in there for a week.
I wish Serena all my best along with a speedy recovery.

I had a blood clot in my abdomen that almost killed me. The pain from that damned thing was excruciating. A week in the Hospital being scanned and poked like a porcupine and I was back to normal.
I hope and pray Serena recovers OK.
My wife nearly died last year from a pulmonary embolism.
This is always a serious situation. Thank God you came through it.
I went in for a routine doctor visit, told him about the terrible ache in my leg, and BAM was in the hospital with a DVT.
The culprit is a hereditary condition called Factor V Leiden, a kind-of reverse hemophilia. I have a mild form so the treatment is an aspirin a day.
I really hope Serena comes through this ok and there was a reason for it — excessive sitting like on a plane, etc.
“What could be “more critical” than a pulmonary embolism?”
I had a pulmonary embolism about 10 years ago. I recovered in a rather short time after experiencing a reasonable level of pain for 2 to 3 days. A severe embolism can be fatal. The treatment options are limited for severe embolisms that threaten lung function. I was put on blood thinner. I do not believe that the blood thinner breaks up the clot. I think that blood thinner makes future clots less likely. I have been on blood thinner for 10 years due to a genetic mutation that can lead to clots.
Anything that can cause serious muscle bruising and hard blows can also cause blood clots. My buddy fell off a 1st floor roof and developed clots. Not fund being on blood thinners and seriously changing your diet for 6 months.
I think she might have roided in the past but I still pray for her. Two girls from f'ing Compton, not pregnant, well spoken and nice.
Mine was hereditary, too. I was 39 when it happened - I never knew I even had it until it happened. Now I’m on Warfarin for the rest of my life.
“What could be “more critical” than a pulmonary embolism?”
Yeah, I didn’t understand that either. Ankle surgery isn’t more critical than pulmonary embolism. But, reporters aren’t known for their brains.
