Google freezes AC. Trial run?
Yahoo/AC ^ | Feb. 28th, 20911 | Sherry Tomfeld

What makes anyone think that this wasn't a huge trial run for Google? Does Google lean to the left or right politically? Do they support all religions or are they anti-Christian or Muslim? Do you want the information sanitized, written by only a handful of people, written to pass the Google criteria or do you want total freedom of the Internet? Do you want the first 20 pages of a Google search to be what Google wants you to see?

IF Google can do this to outfits like AC in its small venue, what could they do to sites like Drudge, Free Republic, etc in the future?

Do AC and others have some really bad articles? Yes. But throwing out babies with the bathwater doesn't seem good. I wade through searches everyday..I like the fact that I am not restrained to read what someone else wants me to read. Can't say that about most mediums. I guess it wouldn't be too much of a leap to drop Drudge's website in the mix if there is an agenda for the future.

Great point, but I believe it is king right now.

I use http://search.yippy.com

Great search engine and they absolutely don’t pass your data on.

I use google only for maps. Personal favorite.

http://www.ixquick.com/

Ixquick's position: You have a right to privacy. Your search data should never fall into the wrong hands. The only real solution is quickly deleting your data or not storing them to begin with. Since January 2009 we do not record our users' IP addresses anymore.

I don't work for them or have any financial ties.

I use yippy.com and recommend it.

What is Yahoo AC? It’s not clear from the story exactly what Associated Content is, how it works and why, exactly, Google doesn’t like it.

Personally I’m glad Gargoyle (google) has chosen this tactic. The job of a search engine is to search out data on the ‘net and post its findings. I don’t want it deciding what I should be able to see.

By inserting itself into the mix as editor and censor, they are cutting off their noses to spite their leftist faces and confirmed our suspicions about them.

This will only serve to aid the popularity of other search engines (and hopefully other Gargoyle products).

I use ixquick and several others including Startpage (http://www.startpage.com/eng/download-startpage-plugin.html).

I often check the results of one search with the offerings of another. It’s so easy with Firefox’s pulldown menu.

Unfortunately gargoyle still has the most comprehensive results.

AC is Associated Content that Yahoo just purchased. I found it when I was searching for canning help. I started reading the cooking and preservation articles and then noticed a political category. There are some interesting articles on travel and such. Are some of the article less than well written? Yes. But there are some very helpful articles, such as the canning info ones. That’s how I started reading Sherry’s stuff. LOL..I too am a Snidely Whiplash fan. He’s a hoot and I’m sure liberals don’t want him anywhere near the first page or two of Google.

I think there’s pretty much every walk of life person writing for AC. I like the articles that bring some real experience into the mix. I also like the passion with which some writers do their politics..like Snidely. Is he a pro? No. But he says things that I wish I could say.

They get paid a dollar or so for every 1500 hits on their article. I wouldn’t think that it is a very high paying job. But I do believe that the majority people are doing it with the right heart. And there is always the option of not clicking on an Associated Content article when it pops up in a search.

In the scheme of things, these “content farms” don’t seem to be that big a share of the Internet. I almost wonder if this was a test trial. I do not trust Google. They make too many “oops” and then say there was nothing to worry about.

I probably didn’t explain this too well. But may be you get the idea.

I get the idea and I appreciate the time you took to explain it.

And I agree. I don’t trust Google.

I have toyed around with writing one that uses BOSS (yahoo/bing search results). DougSearch.com

The annoying thing is that the more I got involved with the data, the more I realized they artificially promote things, also.

Take the Birth Certificate issue. They kept popping the leftist snopes, mediamatters, fightthesmears sites to the top of the search results. I finally put a filter in to knock those sites out of the results.

I would love to write my own engine from start to display, I just don't have the time or money.

I don’t trust Google.

Several people I know are opting out of using google (and have asked about alternate search engines. It's become downright invasive. They refuse to acknowledge Christmas (and Christianity) via their website graphics. They think they are too big to fail.

My favorites are Ixquick and Scroogle

I use several with Google being the search of last resort. I usually start with Bing. I heard Bing stands for “Because it’s not Google”. I am going to try some of the ones posted here

You’re welcome. We’re not “obligated” to use google YET (considering their linkage to government(s)).
