The Republican leader of the Wisconsin state Senate says there will be no vote on a bill taking away union rights for government workers until Democrats return.

...

We had a glimmer of hope to start destroying job-killing unions once and for all, and it is squashed by... REPUBLICANS... when are we going to free this country from the strangle-hold of teachers and other government workers?

“But Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says he will not attempt to pass any portions of the bill without Democrats present”

NO,NO,NO! Even if this is what you intended WHY would you tell them this!

CRAP! You just told them to stay away indefinitely!

This is like going up for a dunk and clanking it off the rim!

The Republicans: Snatching defeat from the jaws stomach of victory.

I’m not sure this is a bad move. The ongoing dereliction of duty by the Wisconsin Rats isn’t impressing the public. And the prospect of major public job cuts caused by their absence continues to loom.

Republicans can out-vote the Dimocrats when they come back. So, there’s no difference whether they come back or not. Republicans can STILL pass this. It’s a nice gentle slap in the Democrat’s face instead of a boot in their party’s animal avatar.

Classy, and just as effective as the cram-it-down-their-throat method. Gives the democrats more time, and more rope with which to hang themselves in the public eye.

Cut jobs now, reduce benefits later, after the ‘rats return.

Right.

This is where the positive PR for Walker and the GOP will begin to turn against them. This is where the independents and soccer moms will begin to start asking questions on why law and order has not been enforced. Why doctors are not being punished for handing out fake sick notes, why the capital (inside not outside) has not been cleared out, so that senators and house members can return to work. So, a couple days of Chaos is understandable, however, law and order must return so senators and house members who want to show up and do their work can do their work...with or without the FLEE-BAGGERS.

This isn't how this is going to be perceived. The press is already comparing the Dem's absence to Repub filibusters in the U.S. Senate. The Repubs will look like they are caving here because they ARE caving. The Repubs are behaving as if there is an iota of legitimacy to the unions' demands, let alone their existence.

Why, when victory is so close? As far as job cuts, it would be great if the unemployment would skyrocket as a result of this situation and it all be blamed on the Dems... but it won't.. it will be blamed on "those in power". The bigger issue is killing the unions, which the citizens of the state voted for. They could do it by Friday... but no, RINOs have prevailed...

Probably a wise move. As it is a so-called financial bill, the Dems would have taken it to court and tied it up for a long time, with a good chance of winning. They need to wait until the Dems return. The longer the Dems are away, the worse they look. Plus, the Repubs in the meantime can pass numerous non-financial bills while they are away. A smart move in my opinion.

You can’t vote on appropriation bills without a quorum. Right now, they don’t have one.

I don’t see acknowledging that fact as “caving.”

They have to come back at some point. Sooner or later. The pressure will mount the longer it goes, and the Republicans can and will pass everything else on the agenda that doesn't involve spending. so... they are only shooting themselves in the foot, particularly if the state grinds to a halt. Then its all on them. Rightly so, they created the damn mess to begin with and just don't want to clean up their own mess. They want to blame it on someone else instead.

I am damn glad they are getting called on it!!!!!

You should be more concerned with law and order returning to the Capital, especially inside the capital. The “Campers” need to be removed so the house and senate can get back to doing their jobs on other issues.

That’s a separate issue, and one that should definitely be addressed. The governor has a number of options here.

I also think the proposed legislation should apply to firefighter and police unions.

Without clearing out the “capital campers” first and soon, you will not have ANY VOTES on ANYTHING.

I do too, especially after this bit of back-stabbing..

http://www.channel3000.com/politics/26933675/detail.html

Walker cuts this deal with the police and this is how one of their leaders thanks the governor... ingrateful or spineless or both...

Why don't the police start using firehoses on these squatters?

The OP(formerly the GOP) could strip the collective bargaining portion of the appropriations bill an attach it as and amendment to a non appropriations bill. A non appropriations bill does not require a quorum. It requires only a simple majority but the OP for some inexplicable reason also refuses to employ that strategy. That is caving.

They should compromise. Let the Democrats come back, so they have a quorum. Once they have a quorum, have the State Police guard the doors. Then vote on the original bill.

Careful folks—Lots of similar reports in the last couple of days have turned out to be false. The MSM is doing everything it can to demoralize us and support the union scum. Regrettably, Forbes has gone to the dark side—I recently cancelled a 30+ year subscription with them.
