Mickey Rooney Gets Restraining Order Against Stepson Accused of Withholding Meds

A judge has granted Mickey Rooney a temporary restraining order from his stepson, who is accused in court filings of withholding food and medicine from the 90-year-old veteran actor and meddling in his personal finances.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz approved the stay-away order on Monday after attorneys for Rooney sought protection for the Academy Award-nominated actor, claiming he lives in fear of stepson Chris Aber.

"All I want to do is live a peaceful life, to regain my life and be happy," Rooney wrote in a statement. "I pray to God each day to protect us, help us endure, and guide those other senior citizens who are also suffering."

The order requires Aber to stay 100 yards away from Rooney and his home and to refrain from contacting the actor until a hearing on Feb. 24, when the restraining order may be extended. "Chris is verbally abusive toward Mickey," the court filing states. "He yells and screams at Mickey. He threatens, intimidates, bullies, and harasses Mickey.

I don't understand. Does this mean that the wife is stating that Mickey filed false charges against the wrong stepson to support a restraining order?

Is she, therefore, battling Mickey herself? And who is living with who....it's clear as mud. Are the "real" alleged perps living with Mickey....in fact, is Jan herself living with Mickey? Whose side is she on?

Who's on first, LOL?

Jan and her son (against whom the restraint was filed)
were on ‘Entertainment Tonight’.
They both said the charges Mickey made had no basis of foundation.
They both indicated that Jan’s other son and his wife (who live with them) were at fault- stiring up trouble.
Jan said she was torn because she loves them both equally.

What I got out of this was Jan and Mickey were living with Jan’s two sons and their wives.
I guess since the restraining order, the first son is out.

Sounds like the usual case of hangers-on, paracites, jealousy and scrambling for the fortune. Sounds to me like all the sons and wives need to find their own place and Mickey and Jan need to hire competent outside help.

I think ‘Entertainment Tonight’ said they would have more with Jan on tonight. It comes on at 6:30 CST on CBS.

.

Both ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and ‘Inside Edition’ are reporting the wife and son (the son to whom the restraining order was issued against) say Mickey’s charges are unfounded. The wife is standing with the son.
They and doctors testified that Mickey’s mind is as sharp as ever.

Where are Mickey’s numerous other children?
If Mickey is of sound mind, why would he file such a restraining order?
A complete mystery. Who knows what’s really going on?

Poor Mickey.
One of our greatest living American icons.
He deserves to live out his remaining time in peace and happiness.
I wish him well.

Thanks for the info. I just surfed around and found no updates on the situation other than already published.

It appears a competent attorney is now handling Mickey's affairs. I'll continue to pray he remains protected from potential family sharks trying to glom on to any fortune he has left.

Thanks for the Ping and the info. It seems to me that there’s more to this story than is being reported..

.

Mickey testified before a Senate committe about his elder abuse and the need for elder abuse to be stopped.

His biological daughter, Kimmie Rooney, was on ‘Inside Edition’ tonight and said that what Mickey said about his abuse at the hands of his stepson was true, and that he was just too terrified to tell until now.
They also said that his honorary Oscar is missing as well as $400,000 of his money.

This is disgusting for this American icon to be treated this way.
I hope he gets some justice.

Thanks for the update.

Why do I, for no reason other than my antenna, trust the biological daughter over the wife who seems to have some divided loyalties....and seems to be going on TV way too much.........hmmmm.

Thanks for the update.

Leni: As you know when money and celebrity is involved really weird stuff happens.
Mickey is not the first to encounter these kinds of problems and he certainly won't be the last.

Mickey is my second favorite all-time actor (first is James Stewart).

Having read Mickey's own autobiography, yes, he was a jerk. Even by his own admission. He spent more time golfing on his honeymoon with Ava Gardner, than with her. In his later years, he calmed down a whole lot. Especially, after becoming a Christian, he said. There was a story about an angel encounter he wrote of that was wonderful.

I hope things get straightened out. I always wanted to meet him and wish him all the peace in the world.

I certainly enjoyed (and still do) all the Andy Hardy movies, but one of my favorites was ‘Quicksand’. That movie was anything but lighthearted comedy.

By the way, my favorite actor has always been James Cagney, but Gary Cooper, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, and Edward G. Robinson (of course!) are right up there. They just don’t make movies like the ones they starred in anymore.

By the way, not to sell the ladies short, my favorite actresses were Kate Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Bette Davis, and Deborah Kerr. Honorary mention to the fantastic conservative, Jane Russell.
