Billy Ray Cyrus Scared For Daughter Miley, Says Hannah Montana 'Destroyed My Family'

Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus blames Disney's "Hannah Montana" for his daughter Miley Cyrus' issues, angrily saying "the damn show destroyed my family," the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Blaming publicists and Miley's handlers, Cyrus gives an anguished interview in GQ's March issue, where he adds he wishes "Hannah Montana" never happened.

"I hate to say it, but yes, I do. I'd take it back in a second," said Cyrus, who is divorcing Miley's mother, Tish.

Reflecting on Miley's controversial moments -- including seductive photos on the internet, pole-dancing at the Teen Choice Awards, and posing for Vanity Fair draped in a sheet -- Cyrus said he should have been stricter, and accuses her handlers of going too far to promote her, and then using him as the fall guy.

Very few children can develop their brains normally in the midst of the unreality of early fame and fortune.

It was a foregone conclusion that Hannah Montana was going to destroy the Cyrus family, no matter how “strict” Billy Ray was.

Somehow I don’t think it was playing Hannah Montana that affected his daughter as much as lack of parental supervision. That almost child porn Vanity Fair photo shoot was done with him present. His daughters being a spoiled rich kid with money and no supervision has led her to drugs, and alcohol. I expect her to join the ranks of Lindsay Lohan, the Olson twins and other child stars on the road to dissipation.

Hey, Billy. You're her FATHER; you are the one who is supposed to protect your daughter from people who would use and abuse her. If anyone is to blame, it is you and Miley's mother, who were all too happy to reap the financial rewards of the results of what those 'publicists and handlers' were doing, and only now see them for what they were.

I agree with your empathy and compassion. One of the biggest problems in decision-making is feeling that somehow “we” can beat it, we can be exempt from the consequences that have befallen others.

The reason it’s hard not to believe that is that, in fact, it may be true. There is the chance that a family can experience fame and fortune and not be destroyed, not have the kids go crazy, not find it all ends in emotional emptiness and relationship ruin. But the chances are against it when it comes to putting kids in a situation where they experience early fame and fortune.

The Olsen twins had a pretty sheltered and normal life growing up, even though they were rich and famous and didn’t quite know it. BUt as soon as they understood their fame and fortune, it had the same gross effect on them that it has on kids who experience it all along.

Seems to be no escaping it.

A spoof movie on Vietnam war movies made as entertainment. While dressed as a comedy, it's awful underlying plot is an indictment of hollywood handlers / agents / and egos'.

The Cruise role plays an executive producer who weighs the possible outcomes of a horrible movie vs. the death of the lead character during the filming in order to buy a Gulfstream 5. It becomes agreed that killing the lead actor and cast by abandoning them would be far more profitable.

He and his wife were the ones who approved of her inappropriate Vanity Fair cover and other behavior not suited for her age. btw, at the Grammys she wore one ugly dress and tried to be sexy only to appear slutty.

Well I have read all of the posts on this thread and I have a different opinion.

Frankly, just because Miley tried smoking some funky stuff, mimicked a stripper dance, or posed for Vanity Fair in a sheet, doesn’t mean she’s a train-wreck, or a druggie, or a slut. She’s just a star. Stars do all sorts of stuff, just like we do, but they’re on camera practically 24-7. She’s a young lady, she has her own strategists, brand people, reps, etc., and she’s also entitled to have a little fun.

What I’d say to Billy is simply: cut it out, get a life, and be the best Dad you can. Stay as close to her as she’ll let you. Don’t go to the press with your personal matters. Give Miley a break and have fun with her - life is too short to waste on cut-down sessions and making laundry dirtier than it is.
