Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus blames Disney's "Hannah Montana" for his daughter Miley Cyrus' issues, angrily saying "the damn show destroyed my family," the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Blaming publicists and Miley's handlers, Cyrus gives an anguished interview in GQ's March issue, where he adds he wishes "Hannah Montana" never happened.
"I hate to say it, but yes, I do. I'd take it back in a second," said Cyrus, who is divorcing Miley's mother, Tish.
Reflecting on Miley's controversial moments -- including seductive photos on the internet, pole-dancing at the Teen Choice Awards, and posing for Vanity Fair draped in a sheet -- Cyrus said he should have been stricter, and accuses her handlers of going too far to promote her, and then using him as the fall guy.

I’ll bet that he anguished over every check he cashed. NOT!
Sounds like Billy is, like many fathers, discovering that his teenage daughter is starting to make her own decisions. Usually you just hope you’ve instilled enough morality into her, so those will be good decisions.
Poor Billy has suddenly realized that a bedrock foundation of exploitation, semi nude photo shoots, etc. is not a good foundation.
He’s going through a divorce; and, I would bet the farm that Miley is ‘siding’ with mom...leaving Billy alone out in the cold...simultaneously lonely and scared to death his daughter will follow in Lohan’s footsteps. (Recent video shows Miley using Salvia - its legal for now, because the legislative process can’t keep up with new drugs, but it is a powerful drug).
I feel bad for Billy...but he has to ‘own’ some of this. It was real easy making money, but now the hard part begins.
My daughter, now forty-four, thanked her mother and me for “not allowing me to do all the stupid things that I wanted to do.” In saying that, she validated the success of our parenting. And, there were many times when it would’ve been so much easier and so much less stressful to simply allow her to have her own way. Should such decisions confront any of you, just remember that “success” and “disaster” lie at approximately equal distances down the road and that disaster is so much easier to achieve than success.
Parents that allow their children to gain their identity from external circumstances (sports, theater, music) are making a gigantic mistake. Once those things are not attainable by circumstance or otherwise, the kid crashes.
Same for politics & politicians, that's how we got a foreign born child of a CIA asset.
Using your own daughter to attempt to reboot your flagging career, and then you realize too late what a bad idea it was??
Sorry, but I wouldn’t let my daughter anywhere NEAR disney... In fact, I won’t even let her watch the Disney Channel other than some cartoons.
Those live action teen shows are horrible... Someone please tell me where are the parents in most of these shows, that love and care and nurture their children? Help them through the tough times, and guide them away from bad and poor decisions???
Calling Disney “wholesome” anymore is like calling a whore actress a paragon of virtue.
Hindsight is 20:20. I bet watching all that money roll in kept his mouth shut especially since actors/musicians seem to be some of the morally fragile people around.
I guess it was OK until Daddy saw his teenage daughter doing a pole dance on TV and it probably would still have been OK if others didn’t start talking badly about it.
The Money Quote, IMO...And I'd bet he had some folks close to him who were urging him to reign her in, but the money was too good.
Billy’s wifey had a wild streak.
Bret Michaels for one.
She is sorta hot in a way.
Calling Disney wholesome anymore is like calling a whore actress a paragon of virtue.

I’ve always said the Disney Channel is nothing but MTV lite.
Just a stepping stone for the pre-teens. And once they turn 13, they are old enough for MTV.
Thankfully there are smart parents out there who see through this teen angel turns slut routine that is common with Disney.
In 2010, Matthew Wilkening of AOL Radio ranked the song at number 18 on the list of the 100 Worst Songs Ever while calling out: "Attention, all units! Country music has been kidnapped. Suspect last seen with a rat-tail and driving a Chevy with 'Truck Balls.' Also wanted for child endangerment."
“I’m not making excuses for him, but in all honestly, if he would have tried to take her off the show I guarantee you the courts would have said otherwise if she pursued that avenue.”
I agree with you there would have been gov’t interference. Your statement calls to mind the article on FR yesterday, where Planned Parenthood told a father that his 14 yr. old daughter’s pregnancy emancipated her.
Disciplining my children in the 80’s was easier than than discipling my “surprise” child who is currently 14 yrs old. In the 80’s, I never thought about CPS....
What is “Tropic Thunder”?
In a crack whore sorta way, IMO. I just did a search...WOWSERS!
He was the one who pushed her onto the Spears path, cheered her on while she was doing her pole dance, and is now in denial that he was the one who created the monster, not her handlers.
No, Billy, you take the girl to church, you talk to her about God, and you help her realize that all the money and clothes in the world will not provide her with peace.
Billy Ray Cyrus had been in the music industry so he isn’t misinformed about the drugs, alcohol, sex etc... In fact, he should have been more aware than other stage parents. He was fine and dandy with the fame and money. He was fine and dandy until the girl reached ADULTHOOD. She can make her own decision now and he can’t say a thing about it. He and his wife put her on that path... proof is in the pudding. I wonder how he will exploit the other kids?!! Just a thought.
Disney went in the tank a while ago.
Gee, a young girl attaining fame and fortune - the adulation of millions - who could have foreseen any bad outcomes from that?
