It was 4 a.m. and still dark when Dufour and his partner felt the extra weight in their net.
"I jumped back and said, what the heck is this. I didn't know what it was," he recalled.
But Dufour's question was answered when the fish plopped into their 20 foot boat.
"When it opened the mouth it got, I don't know how many different set of teeth in it. They got a bunch of teeth in there," Dufour said.
It turned out to be an 80 pound bull shark.
"After we got it in the boat, we fought with it, it was going to bite us," Dufour said.
As the two fishermen tugged on their net, they pulled in four more sharks.
It was the bull shark they told us, and that's the meanest one they got."
"They're probably the most dangerous species of shark without a doubt because they're very aggressive."

This is considered by many experts to be the most aggressive shark in encounters with people, in both salt and freshwater. - Tom- Tom
Got plenty of ‘em in Lake Pontchartrain, too.
They get as far north as NY,NJ.
Some people in Mass. have said they caught bull sharks, but the ones that were looked at, turned out to be duskys or sandbar sharks. - tom
The ones that make it into Lake Pontchartrain are mostly juveniles and adolescents that are believed to be birthed near the Chandeleur Islands and then go back to sea as adults.
To the misfortune of the shark, folks from the bayou country can cook anything and make it taste good!
Truth be told, it's the flesh eating bacteria that scare the hell out of me!
Bull sharks are commercially caught and sold for food; so they must be good eating.- Tom
It was a bull shark that took the arm of Bethanie Hamilton in Hawaii on a section of reef/shore with zero history of shark attacks.
Make that Bethany Hamilton, pro surfer.
Didn’t a bull shark enter Lake Michigan around Chicago in the 50’s and bite a kid’s leg off?
Thanks. Will read later.
That attack was attributed to a tiger shark.
There are no bull sharks in Hawaii-that's a break for the Hawaiian tourist industry. - tom
I apologize. You are correct. I wrote something terribly misleading. I don’t know why I had it in my head that it was a Bull. I went to Bethany’s book, SOUL SURFER (my daughter owns the book) to look at the pic of the shark that I remembered so well. The pic was as I remembered but the caption said nothing of the species.
I found on pages 3 and 4 of the book, “That’s all it took: a split second. I felt a lot of pressure and a couple of lightning-fast tugs. I couldn’t make out any of the details but I knew that the huge jaws of a 15-foot tiger shark covered the top of my board and my left arm.”
