I’ve lived in the Clear Lake area near Houston and NASA for about 15 years. Great schools, low crime, great environment (access to the coast and lots of marinas if you are a boater) and near the world-renowned Houston hospitals.
There may be some good house buys coming on the market if NASA downsizes.
My favorite area of Texas however is either San Antonion or Ausin because they are nicely urban but with the scenic ‘hill country’ within their city limits. Gives you a better climate than muggy Houston. Lots of lakes nearby. San Antonio has a good medical center with a rising reputation.
Dallas is good and busy economic metropolitan area but just doesn’t have the charm of either of the above two choices.
If we had to move from Colorado, my husband and I would probably choose Utah and Southeast Utah specifically. But like someone else said, how to make a living in that specific area? Arizona would be a possibility. Idaho possibly.
I live in Texas, but I would still do some research on the Super Secret 7 States that Obama visited ... they have no Tax and are never in the News.
I would first visit them before making any decision.

Nebraska, Oklahoma or Texas
Just please don't bring any of your liberal friends with you. Austin is just full of them already.
Don’t come to Oregon. We’ve got a pretty crumby economy & have been Californicated. I might as well be living in San Francisco. :-(
Austin, TX is a great city, however U of TX is there and the city is run by libs. Dallas (Plano and Frisco come to mind) is prairie land (flat) and practically treeless and 100+ temps in the summer (no rain for months).
Eastern Tennessee or Western North Carolina.
It would depend on the extent of your medical needs. If you are looking for the best neurological care, then you may consider the Duke Facilities(NC). Otherwise, Texas has a lot to offer as well.
Well, from here in North Carolina, I can say that it’s really not a bad place to live. Texas is probably closer to what you want, but this area of NC (the Triangle, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) has some of the best medical care in the world. The infrastructure is not bad, but unfortunately, the state legislature was dominated by Rats for 100 years until now and the governor is still a Rat, and clueless to boot.
There is a state income tax but it’s not all that high. We do have the highest gas taxes in the Southeast, though. I don’t know about the gun laws. The climate is great, the scenery is great—mountains, beaches, forests, plains, all of it just a few hours away.
The biggest thing about living in NC is that you’ve got to carefully pick where you live. Even here in the Triangle, for example, there are decently conservative areas on the other side of Raleigh, but here in Durham, it’s like living in Zimbabwe with the racial politics. And Chapel Hill is home to UNC, which is cockroach-infested with liberals.

Where in NC?
I work in Charlotte, NC but live just across the border in Fort Mill, SC. I also moved from NJ.
Best. Move. Ever.
The climate is great. Summers can be a bit hot, but overall the weather is beautiful. Charlotte is easy to access and has a ton of amenities. The school system in Fort Mill is top-notch (at one point the superintendent of the school system was actually a former home schooler!). The values are spot on, although there are quite a few northerners moving in nowadays, so you get a bit of a mix. Overall, though, it’s good, God-loving people all around.
In Fort Mill - especially if you are out in the county part like me - taxes are LOW. My property taxes are less than a thousand a year. Seriously. There is an income tax and sales tax, but not as steep as NC. Don’t live in actual Charlotte or you’ll face steep taxes and a crappy school system.
Gun laws are as they should be - just walk in, pass the check, and walk out 20 minutes later.
I can’t speak directly to the hospitals for neurological disorders, but we seem to be all right. CMC Charlotte delivered my son and did a fine job of it. They respected my wife’s wishes to have a natural child birth without any pressure to do the usual things.
Plus, we have Jim Demint in SC.
So if it’s Charlotte, Fort Mill could be the place for you. My wife tells me how happy she is we made the move at least once a week.
I would say Texas or Virginia.....going to NC depends upon where given the majority of NC is becoming libtard-ville... =.=
I haved lived in all 3 of those states you listed. Currently living in the Charlotte area. I like this area alot. I graduated from Sandusky High School and BGSU and hated the winters in Ohio. I lived in Grand Prairie, TX for 3 years and the traffic in DFW is terrible. Outside the traffic, the Dallas - Fort Worth is a great place with a lot to offer! My favorite home was in Colorado Springs, CO.
Wherever the girls are hot.
“Nevada means home” is our state motto. To Sweet Hubby and I it truly is home.As the sun rises our broad, sweeping valley is aglow with a shimmering pink light. When I let the dog outside a few minutes ago I spotted several wild mustangs on the other side of the road. Nevada means home.
I would live in Florida or Hawaii. When I was growing up, I wouldn’t have considered living anywhere but southern California. I loved it. But it has been totally ruined.
Texas is a good choice. I’m in SE Virginia right now and like it but the northern parts are getting a bit more influence lately.
NC is NOT a good choice. Idaho is probably a good choice as well.
Texas has excellent medical care and facilities in the Houston area. In Phoenix, there is the world class Barrow Neurological Institute. My wife has received care at Barrow. The surgery procedure and care was beyond excellent.
NC may be OK in the future since the Republicans just took over the legislature for the first time in over 100 years.
