Where in NC?

I work in Charlotte, NC but live just across the border in Fort Mill, SC. I also moved from NJ.

Best. Move. Ever.

The climate is great. Summers can be a bit hot, but overall the weather is beautiful. Charlotte is easy to access and has a ton of amenities. The school system in Fort Mill is top-notch (at one point the superintendent of the school system was actually a former home schooler!). The values are spot on, although there are quite a few northerners moving in nowadays, so you get a bit of a mix. Overall, though, it’s good, God-loving people all around.

In Fort Mill - especially if you are out in the county part like me - taxes are LOW. My property taxes are less than a thousand a year. Seriously. There is an income tax and sales tax, but not as steep as NC. Don’t live in actual Charlotte or you’ll face steep taxes and a crappy school system.

Gun laws are as they should be - just walk in, pass the check, and walk out 20 minutes later.

I can’t speak directly to the hospitals for neurological disorders, but we seem to be all right. CMC Charlotte delivered my son and did a fine job of it. They respected my wife’s wishes to have a natural child birth without any pressure to do the usual things.

Plus, we have Jim Demint in SC.

So if it’s Charlotte, Fort Mill could be the place for you. My wife tells me how happy she is we made the move at least once a week.

Fort Mill has come a long way in a couple of decades. I grew up not that far from there. I am in Columbia and really wouldn’t mind going back towards the Charlotte area. Columbia isn’t all that great for prospects any more unless you are in medical, the Army, or state drone.

Being a state drone may become even tougher as soon as Nikki starts to cut some of the useless and outdated agencies such as the Arts Commission and SCETV. Those would be great starts.

I have done some IT contracting gigs up there in Fort Mill at Citibank and liked it.

I lived 2 years in Charlotte (Matthews) relocating from Southern California. Spent many a day golfing at Tega Cay in South Carolina just over the border.

It is on Lake Wylie, nice area.

Straight shot up I-77 to Charlotte.
