I've bought 2 new cameras in the past 10 years, both died just after the warranty expired. I've done a lot better on Ebay, Craigslist and the local thrift shots.
I bought a thrift shop lens last week, an old Minolta autofocus 50mm f1.4, for 5 bucks. Didn't look at it good until I got home, it cleaned up like new and it turns out it's worth berween $200.00 and $300.00.
It's better than the lottery, LOL!
I caught Grandson Gerry with it today, about 3 more weeks and he will head out for basic training.<>P

I think my future purchases of equipment will be Ebay and Craigslist. I sort of got out of photography there for awhile due to the cost of equipment.

which service? I was watching the Marine Corpse mountain warfare survival training on tv today. Some of those things reminded me of some of the stuff I did when I was a kid playing in the snow...

Good for the grandson- and good on finding quality at bargain prices- in this case the camera equipment. That is my kind of shopping.

My Sony DSLR can use all the old Minolta Maxxum lenses and it is great glass at bargain prices. Most of the lenses I use date from 1985 or earlier. That stuff doesn't wear out.
The purists rant about different coatings and other changes but I don't have any problems. The old lenses are a lot heavier but I can handle that.

I was at a gun show around 12 years ago. A guy had four Minolta Maxxum AF lenses on his table. I don’t know where he got them but he knew nothing about them. They were new in the box.
There were two 50mm f2.8 macro lenses and two 70-210 zooms. He had the 50mm priced at $50 and the zoom a little more. I bought one of each. When I got home and checked prices I could have kicked myself for not buying both the macros.

Lord have mercy, I wouldn't know how to act with that.
This is my main weapon of choice, got some decent lenses for it.

Hubby and I are planning a trip to the Northwest, the redwoods, and Yosemite. I told him he needs to get the lens he has been drooling over for the last 18 months, so I don’t have to listen to him talk about the shots he could have gotten if he’d had this particular lens. Cost=$1500. Well worth it to not have to listen to him go on and on about it! Plus, he rarely spoils himself, so it’s nice to tell him “get the #(%&)$ lens” and treat him.
