Susannah York, the celebrated film and stage actress best known for her role in the film They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, has died aged 72.

She was the blue-eyed English rose with the china-white skin and cupid lips who epitomised the sensuality of the swinging Sixties. Sexy and demure by turn, Susannah York, who died yesterday from cancer at 72, held a generation of male admirers in her thrall.

She played Mrs. Bob Cratchit (I believe opposite George C. Scott as Scrooge).

And she portrayed Jane Eyre, again opposite George C. Scott as Rochester.

I've seen her in quite a few things, including Duffy (with James Coburn), which might be where that picture is from. This was a classic English Mod post-James Bond adventure comedy—the sort of thing that Austin Powers tried to improve on.

Yeah, I first saw her in Tom Jones too. She played Sophie. I really liked her. Trivia question - what was the last film JFK saw before his assassination? That’d be Tom Jones which he screened on Sunday, November 17, 1963, 5 days before he was gunned down. Tom Jones also won four Oscars, including Best Picture. It is also the only film in the history of the Academy in which three actresses were nominated for Best Supporting Actress Oscar (Diane Cilento, Dame Edith Evans, and Joyce Redman). RIP Susannah, you will be missed.

“Battle of Britain. Unfortunately that movie didn’t live up to its billing.”

Whilst Susannah York was extremely easy on the eye I agree with you that her (along with her 1960’s page boy hair style) and her love interest were a distraction in the movie. I simply fast forward through those scenes to get to the air combat parts which are excellent even though there’s always some rivet counting bore on hand to tell you that the Heinkel bombers aren’t actually the correct specification.

Yeah, like there was a whole heap of genuine Luftwaffe Battle of Britain veteran aircraft lying around the place in the 1960’s to make an exactly accurate movie.

Rivet counting bores?LMAO.I was just thrilled that they bought all the planes and hired all the pilots and made this movie.I will say that even as a kid ,when this movie came out, I knew they were spanish built copies.Very cool flick nontheless.
