The woolly mammoth, extinct for thousands of years, could be brought back to life in as little as four years thanks to a breakthrough in cloning technology.

If he succeeds, how much land will be set aside as wilderness habitat for the newly created “Endangered species”?
In what country, and who is going to pay to guard the damn thing?
If he makes more than one, will they be fertile?
How many to have a stable breeding population?
WHO is paying for all this?
And WHY?

The rebirth of the Republican party, I can't think of a better mascot. The 'ass' had it's day.
I hate it when I do that!!!
Who would pay? We would—folks would line up and spend their money to see one! Every zoo in the world will want one. Think of what we could learn about them? As for land—I don’t see a great many being made. Also—they taste good—we can raise them to eat! The rich will pay $1,000 each for a Mammoth steak! No, I see this as a real capitalist gain!
Make it so, Number One...
Plus, would any animal ever truely be “endangered” after that? “But, Your Honor! If we run out of triple toed whomp bats, we can just fire up the test tubes and make more!” Win-win!
Right now it sounds like he’s only trying to clone one. He would have to clone one of each sex in order to bring the Mammoth back into existence for good. I would suppose they would be as fertile as any clone and could be housed in a Zoo in Japan just like an elephant would. My guess is that there will be hundred of people wanting to invest in this sort of thing if he’s successful. Can you imagine how many millions would travel to Japan just to see this animal? If it works, a lot of folks are going to make a lot of money.
We already have a Mammoth on the White House grounds.
It’s not too late to be the first to give birth to one.
Why?
It will just be a hybrid long haired elephant.
What are you going to “learn about them” from an artificially created creature that has no experience of living in a natural environment, where are it’s instincts from?
It will never have learned behavior natural to it’s species from any members of it’s species.
The final product is artificial, spend the money on something more worthwhile.
Updating my list early this year. Scratch the hippopotamus, I want a wooly mammoth for Christmas.
Q: If he succeeds, how much land will be set aside as wilderness habitat for the newly created Endangered species? A: All the National Grasslands (probably, like for buffalo), and all the hunting lodges in the Dakotas that can afford to invest in getting them.
Q: In what country, and who is going to pay to guard the damn thing? A: Russia, by crazy billionaires, and Dakota hunting lodge investors.
Q: If he makes more than one, will they be fertile? How many to have a stable breeding population? A: They’ll use every mammoth they can find, then call it enough.
Q: WHO is paying for all this? A: Crazy Russian billionaires.
Q: And WHY? A: Putin wants to be seen killing one with just a stone knife.
Eh, interesting times.
You’re not planning a breeding program with those two are you?
Reparations to the mammoths for the "mammoth hunters"?
“He has announced plans to travel to Siberia in the summer to search for mammoths in the permafrost and to recover a sample of skin or tissue that can be as small as 3cm square.”
He hasn’t even gotten a sample yet? The gestation period is 600 days, from inception.
This is going to take a while, at best.
