Great Secret In Pyramid Construction Finally Revealed

The Egyptians had a secret that allowed construction of the pyramids.

Labor Unions! I am not kidding. I about fell off my stationary bike today watching Egypt’s Ten Greatest Discoveries.

The great genius Zahi Hawass came to this conclusion because:

There is evidence that some of them had their broken bones cared for (thus they had union healthcare) They ate a very good diet consisting of fresh fish and grains.

Some of their organizers were buried in granite tombs composed of discard of the pharaoh’s tombs they were working on so these were the highly valued community organizers.

Some of us less intelligent people might think that slaves were a valuable commodity especially since so many of them would be needed and this is why they were given good food and medical care.

Of course we would be wrong.

That is why Dr. Hawass is such brilliant person. He could be called an “Egyptian Al Gore” so great is his intellect!

I again didn’t believe my ears but when preparing this post this Labor Union fact is even mentioned in the Wikipedia article about this series. Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt's_Ten_Greatest_Discoveries

Amateurs talk of strategy and tactics, professionals think of logistics.

If labor unions were involved in the construction of the pyramids, they would either have failed in 20 years or they would still not be complete.

The best research I have read demonstrates that the pyramids were built off season by citizens who moved their entire families into well developed communities. According to grafiti this was honorable work done in furtherance of national pride.

But it has to be true. Old Egypt and modern Egypt are nothing but ruins and piles of rubble.

Almost like a religious revival....which explains why thousands of people would labor to accomplish a memorial for themselves and their posterity.

If there is evidence of medical care, provisions for daily life and a sense of community - there is less evidence for slavery. Men and women living together would result in childbirth and a need to create a civil outpost.

Here's a LINK to a 2003 article about Mark Lehner, the archeologist who discovered the city of the workers who built the pyramids. From the evidence, they ate really, really well.

No, they weren't called slaves back then. The work was religious in nature ~ there was also a division of labor between the permanent party of artists and designers, and the corvee labor from the countryside.

You are confounding Egypt at the time of Moses with Egypt several hundred years earlier.

This is comparable to confounding George Washington with Pepin the Great..

Labor Unions! I am not kidding.

Small wonder it took 30 years to build a single building...

A few decades ago, someone at the Smithsonian came up with a simple and low tech way for the Egyptians to build the pyramids with far fewer people and faster.

To start with, the quarry was located upriver, and there is the remains of a large, professional mason city next to it. Once processed, each block was moved to an expendable small boat, where it would be floated down river to the pyramid site.

The problem was first of all, moving the blocks from the quarry to the mason city, then from the city to the boat, and then from the boat to the pyramid site.

The solution was to do the equivalent of turning the rectangular blocks of stone into cylinders that could be rolled. This could be done by using two large wooden wheels, four segments that formed a wheel, held together with pins. Square on the inside, round on the outside.

For short distances it could be moved by men, for longer distances, by oxen. The Egyptians were experts with building dirt ramps as well, so they would likely use ramps to get the stones emplaced, “burying” the pyramid on the way up, then as they reduced the ramps, putting in the casing stones on the way down.

If you think about it, swift and sure punshment was always a motivator .. even in the bygone days of paddling in schools.

The Kufu legend is a scam perpetrated by an archeologist determined to find something. He forged the supposed writing on the stones inside the great pyramid just like he forged other “finds” in the past. The pyramids were already there when Kufu reigned as evidenced by a stele found near Giza that had a depiction of the pyramids.

Ouh interesting — what do you know about the stele and when is it dated from?

"What exactly did he do to be appointed Grand Poobah of Antiquities anyway? You can bet it was political."

Why is he the only Egyptian apparently allowed to speak?
