My son is getting married the weekend of Valentine's Day. He and is wife to be have not yet decided on a honeymoon location. Travel agents are steering them into one of those all inclusive, security fenced in places in Aruba or Cancun etc. I suggested a Cruise, but my son, a plumber and avid golfer, I think would probably go nuts after a couple days without doing something physical. My brother suggest Maui. Staying in San Francisco a day and then flying to there. I say anywhere but Mexico. The drug wars, etc have spilled into places like Alcapulco...so I'd say it would be crazy to go there.
I respect and look forward to the comments here.
These are all wonderful ideas. Thank you everyone.
I thought too of Amelia Island...Our family is from Rathdrum Idaho, so the idea of going there and spending a few days might be fun....
I like the suggestion of going somewhere that you’ll return to.
Again thank you... and if you think of something specific...like a cruise ship line, or a specific hotel.
The Four Seasons is quite high is it noton Kauai?
Sannibel Island is heaven on earth!
Cruises are excellent! Al you have to pay for is your booze, your shopping and your gambling.
We have always seen plenty of honeymooners.
I recommend that that they get a balcony room if they go on one...
I agree, even if I found a 100lb. gold nugget in my back yard I still wouldn’t go to Hawaii.
The growing hatred of white Haoles is getting too hot, and you cannot escape it, who knows what is really in that salad dressing?
The natives there won’t be happy until all whit man is gone, and a lot of white people refuse to even think about this.
They should take a drive away from their tourist mine and actually listen to what the natives say about the white people.
Tijuana.
Where do they live now (what part of country, at least)? Are they set on going in February or soon after the wedding?
You can book golfing expeditions on several cruises. I recommend Eastern Caribbean. Saint Thomas and other islands in the area have very challenging courses.
We spent our honeymoon in 2003 at Tacoban, Costa Rica. Not that expensive, beautiful country, in the shadow of Mt. Arenal. The volcano, when it gets to rumbling, sounds like a freight train coming through your room. On the other hand, there’s always Djibouti. Never any threat of rain. Lots of Legionnaires around to make life interesting.
Everything they want is in the USA. Stay here, spend here. FL, NV, ME. All good, all need the tourist money. Golf, ski, romance, fine dining.
Well, then, you know the intrinsic beauty of Idaho. We took a western trip last year and I was floored by what I saw in that state. I am sorry it is so late in life for me...looks like a place to plant your roots...just saying!
NV, not so much, let Harry Reid vacate there!
The Big Island is a little different than the others. It's quite a bit more spread out so more variety.
There are a couple of extremely nice beaches (Hapuna and Mauna Kea) and excellent golf courses up on the Kohala Coast, but also many physical activities around the rest of the island (Volcano, Hot Ponds, Valley hikes, coffee farms, as well as historical sites). Maui and Kauai also beautiful, of course, but the Big Island is a little different with its luxuries but also more vast wilderness areas.
Good luck.
Brasil is where you go after the divorce! : D
We went to the Upper Peninsula (Michigan) in 1984 for our honeymoon, and stayed in a lighthouse right on Lake Superior. Fabulous! That was in September, however, not February (brrrrr), but they have great places to ski in the UP too, and staying warm by a fireplace; how romantic! But if your son is a golfer (is his wife-to-be?) why not suggest a great place where they can golf?
Stay in America and spend your money here.
Tell them to go for the cruise. In 2-3 weeks they’ll be able to get a 5 nighter for a couple hundred bucks a pop.
#1 Hawaii.
#2 Venice (and northern Italy in general).
#3 Greek island cruise (on a private crewed boat).
#4 Hayman Island, Australia (Great Barrier Reef area).
Yeah, I know Harry is not one to support. But I was thnking of the beating the businesses took after Obama's comments. I picked Fl cause it's fun. And ME cause I live here and I'm prejudice.
