LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- An explosion was reported at a closed gas station in the 1400 block of Dixie Highway.
Louisville police said several people reported an explosion at the corner of Dixie Highway and Standard Avenue around 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
The explosion damaged a truck.
Officials said a man was using a chainsaw between the gas station and another building and the sparks set residual gas fumes on fire.
There were no injuries reported.
According to Louisville police spokeswoman Carey Klain, Steven Askew, the man with the chainsaw, was there to steal piping.
Askew, 48, is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief

No, no, no! If he lived he is not eligible. Rules, there are rules.
And what the hell is “and the sparks set residual gas fumes on fire”.
Guess its just random flammable gas that is released from homes.
In what world?
Sorry officer, I was walking by and threw away a cigar that ignited residential gas fumes and burned down the whole town!
Yep. that works....
A chainsaw at a gas station, what could possibly go wrong?
“Sorry officer, I was walking by and threw away a cigar that ignited residential gas fumes and burned down the whole town!
Yep. that works....”
No that would be “Sorry officer I was using my chainsaw by this old gas station when it ignited residential gas fumes and burned down the whole town”
like treatin' a hangnail with a sledgehammer.
check out the keywords. I think there's a keyword-of-the-week winner in there.
I’ll bet it was a chainsaw power head turning a abrasive disc to cut metal pipe for sale to a scrap yard. I wonder if the truck that was damaged belonged to the perp...
Y’all gotta view the video at the link. It was a abandoned gas station and the underground tanks were empty of everything except fumes and a spark caused a boomer collapsing the tank and the perp’s GMC pickup is now sitting in the hole...
Well when it comes to the Darwin award, one has to just keep trying! That is the American spirit, don’t give up!
Lumberjacks are chainsaw operators.
Very likely.
I think the reporter blew the saw description.
For the record, flammable liquids do not generate “fumes”, they produce flammable VAPORS.
Vaors? Kinda like the vapors I get after eating a lot of veggies?
Exactly!
I just spent the last four days running a chainsaw and didn’t see one single spark...
If you keep your equipment up to par, this crap don’t happen.
Idjit!!
As I said up thread if he was cutting iron pipe for sale to a scrap yard he was more likely than not using a abrasive disc on a Chainsaw power head and they make lots and lots of pretty sparks. His stupidity comes into play if he was cutting off the vent stacks from the underground tanks...
