Sad news. We also lost our 17 year old dog today. Peter died peacefully in his own bed this morning.
So sorry to hear about your Peter. I’ve awoken to the same kind of sadness in the past. Stay focused on all the happy memories, and know that he’s waiting for you patiently.
I’m sorry you lost your pet. Wrong season if any season is right for that to happen. My Cockatiel “Belinda” also happens to be 17.

It sucks to lose a pet we had a cat that lived to 23 from my child hood so sad Prayer up for you and Mrs. don O
My heart goes out to you and Mrs. don-o. It is nothing less than losing a member of the family as I have lost two and it is nothing less than a wrenching event.
After two years and living in a small place, I thought I wouldn’t get another until I had a bigger place. Then one cold, wet October evening six years ago a youngish small mixed-terrior puppy (about six-seven month’s old) was cold and shivering and I took him in for the night. After asking a couple of days asking around for an owner, I adopted him. He had no shots, but parasites, mites, fleas, etc. I spent about $1,000 to get him well and neutered and he has been my constant companion since then. The past two weeks when I was sick he slept on the bed never making a noise but knowing somehow I was under the weather.
Those of us who are dog lovers will get over the hurt and reach out again to adopt another lifelong friend.
Sincere sympathy from Mr and Mrs. CGG. We are huge dog lovers here. We understand the importance these critters have in our lives.
OK, call me a curmudgeon.
This past week my 15 yo minpin died. She lived 4 months longer than we thought she would, glad I had the extra time with her.
My sympathies to you and mrs. Don-o. It hurts a lot to lose your furry companion. We lost our tiny little terrier mutt, at almost 15 years old (she had renal failure—we think we had bad dog food—think four years ago). Our youngest was nine and very philosophical...he missed his little buddy, cried over her loss...but then he said ‘now we can give another dog that needs a home one.’ Thats how we got our big boy terrier mix (we don’t know what else is mixed in there) Baxter.
Cyber hug your way FRiend (and Mr. Levin’s way as well).
I am so sorry to hear about Peter.
My Schnitzel was almost 18 when she passed. You have my sympathiy.
I’m so sorry, don-o. Be good to yourself. I’m sure Peter would want that.
Sorry for your and Mrs. Don-o’s loss of Peter, and for Mark’s and his family’s loss of Griffin. It really does wring your heart to lose a pet, a member of the family as they are.
It is indeed sad news. My condolensences to you and, of course, to the Levins. Losing a beloved pet is one of the hardest experiences. It’s harder at Christmas. Hopefully, there can be some comfort in the fact that Peter passed away peacefully in his bed, and that you had many wonderful years with him. The latter can be extended to Mark, his wife and family since we don’t know the details. Take care.
