Things are getting hairy in women's facial fashion -- but it's all in the name of charity.
That's because this month has been declared "Decembrow" by the feminist-oriented website Feministing, and women are encouraged to grow out their eyebrows to the point where they connect in the middle.
Much in the same way that men grow mustaches in "Movember" to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer, Decembrow participants are asked to get pledges and donations for their own pet causes while growing brows that would make hirsute Mexican painter Frida Kahlo proud.
For instance, Lori Adelman -- who coined the term "Decembrow" -- is donating the money she raises to the International Women's Health Coalition, an organization that advocates for women's health, sexual and reproductive rights.
Two separate things inspired Adelman to create Decembrow. The first was, of course, Movember.
"Many of my guy friends participated in 'Movember,' which is a great initiative," she told AOL News. "It's a great way to get people involved -- but most women are unable to grow mustaches."
The other inspiration came from, of all places, Tajikistan, after Adelman read an article in the Global Post about how "unibrows" are the latest trend in that country. In fact, some women in Tajikistan whose brows aren't bushy enough are resorting to herbal remedies or eyebrow pencils in order to get up to a socially acceptable level.
(snip) This is a subject that interests Adelman very much, as a great deal of her writing addresses cultural standards that create a less-than-healthy body image for women and girls.
"We all could benefit from being open-minded about looks," she said. "I see [Decembrow] as a lighthearted and playful way of bringing attention to the way cultural ideas of beauty affect all of us."

Looks like Freda is raising awareness for Prostrate Cancer as well.
The other Mitford sisters were slightly less colorful.
LMAO!! The yellow teeth and that knowing wink sell the look for me. Hot!
LOL!
Maybe often true, but there are exceptions. I have a pair of nieces who are very attractive and don't primp excessively. However, their main cosmetic focus is thinning the unibrows they would naturally have... and I mean bushy straight across. I don't blame them a bit.
Unfortunately, in the interests of family harmony, there will be no pics offered as proof.
Their music goes really well with cabbage rolls....
Cave women unit Grog and Ork plan party.
Obviously squirrel visors are an exception. I was of course speaking in generalities.
I'm going to steal that one, the next time my wife gives me crap about my eyebrows.
FWIW, I keep threatening her that I'm going to grow them out and comb them up over my bald spot.
Are unibrows a sign of a feminist? Is that the genetic marker that would go along with the liberal gene? Or would it just be hairy women?
I have never cut or plucked my eyebrows and I have never had a unibrow or bushy eyebrows.
I just fear women who have hairier eyebrows than my husband.
And the surprise raisin in the buns........
