Seven People Trapped Inside British Pub for Nine Days

In what sounds like a beer drinker’s dream, seven people were trapped inside a British pub for nine days by a ferocious snowstorm and 16-foot snow drifts.

Five staff members and two local residents were barricaded in the Lion Inn in Blakey Ridge, Kirbymoorside, North Yorkshire from Nov. 26, but under the most optimal of conditions: plenty of food and drink and since the pub is also a bed and breakfast, there were even beds to sleep in.

A snowplow finally made its way over the North York moors to the pub Saturday, allowing those inside to leave, the BBC reported.

“It was really novel at first and quite exciting,” the Mail quoted waitress Katie Underwood, 18, as saying before they finally made it out.

"It’s been freezing, but we’ve been lucky that it’s a pub and B&B we’re trapped in.

‘We’ve got plenty of coal for our fire, which has been great, and there are rooms upstairs so we have somewhere to sleep, and plenty of food.”

The Lion Inn’s home website says, ”The bar is well known for its good selection of quality real ales” and notes it is recommended by, among others, The Good Pub Guide and the Good Beer Guide.

I thought the same thing. As long as there was toilet paper and the wife wasn’t there, it would be great. The only thing I could think of anything better is being snowed in a coffee shop in Amsterdam.

Before I can decide how awful the imprisonment was, I'll need to see pictures of Katie Underwood, 18.

Every day before each of the'04 hurricanes, on the east coast of FL, everyone went to the one bar in town they knew would be open, What-A-Tavern. Even the news film crew was there.

While in Tampa waiting out one of the storms, I was watching the film clips of my neighborhood on the ol' TV, and they were the worst shots ever! Totally non-sensical.

Too much time in the Tavern.

Gunner was snowed in once in a gay bathhouse.

He only talks about it when he’s sober.

I have never heard the story.

Kinda glad too.

Got stuck at a ski resort one New Years. Oh, the people were there (about 10,000). But me (keyboards) and the guitar player were the only musicians that were there. The other bands couldn't get up the hill with the snow.

We took the other 4 bands speakers to the big hall and hooked up a dream sound system. I figured out an electronic drummer machine (new at the time).
We played all night, just the two of us and had a ball.

As a singer and a musician, this was heaven. Seven Springs Ski Resort, PA.

“It’s been 9 days. We’ve come to rescue you!”

“From what?”

9,000 bottles of beer on the wall,
9,000 bottles of beer,
You take one down,
pass it around,
8,999 bottles of beer on the wall!
8,999 bottles of beer on the wall,
8,999 bottles of beer...

>> The weird thing is the snow had melted after only two days.

After drinking for 2 days, they could no longer find the door knob.

I suppose it beats being stranded in a Premier Inn like I’ve been for a week.

Triple BAH.

Apparently, the vodka bottles on the back porch are nicely chilled, so at least I’ve got something to look forward to when I get back.

Which reminds me, I need to weigh the trunk down with something heavy to keep it out of the hedgerows on my way back through those snowy, icy country lanes.

Since every shop between here and home has probably run out of sacks of potatoes due to the panic buying, I’m drawing up a list of People I Hate But Happen To Live On The Route, to serve as ballast.

It’s hard to say. That picture is like an amazing optical illusion. For instance, if I stare at it long enough I’d swear I can almost make out a pearl necklace... but I can’t be sure.
