The investigation continues into how a dog was electrocuted in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood.
Sammy was electrocuted Thanksgiving Day as his owner Lisa McKibbin walked him along Queen Anne Avenue North, next to a street light.
"There is something in that light pole that is not functioning properly or correctly," McKibbin said.

Leave all utility poles alone, even if half the neighborhood has lef their mark on them.
Stick to fire hydrants, trees and tires (stationary vehicles only) and you will avoid this kind of tragedy.

And from personal experience, avoid electric fences. If you never know what I mean, you should thank me.
Stray voltage is a problem with aging infrastructure all over the world.

My brother in law used to tell the story of a childhood friend that took a whizz onto a running lawn mower. Ouch!

I have never heard of such a thing, but I’ll surely pay attention to where my Max goes.
This brings to mind a question I have always had. Why does my dog carefully sniff the tires of any new vehicle in our parking lot? Whenever we hire a new employee, my dog sniffs all four wheels of his/her car. He doesn’t mark them — he just gathers information with his nose. Same at home, if somone new comes to the door. He seems compelled to inspect their car.

A few days ago they had a story of a woman who removed her shoes and while standing in a puddle leaned against a light pole. ZOT

The City of Atlanta had the bright idea of installing a working traffic signal outside the Traffic offices in City Hall.
It's an open atrium with a walkway around, so lots of people from the surrounding offices go over to City Hall to 'mall walk' on their lunch hour.
I was over there with some friends, and paused at the railing to lean down and look for some other friends. My shoulder brushed the traffic signal as I leaned next to it and ......... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZAP!
I wasn't hurt, it was only a momentary contact. I was pretty irritated though, and I went boiling into the Traffic offices and raised a little perdition right there. Called them seven kinds of idiot for not grounding the unit (when I looked underneath, there was the ground wire just hanging there. Idiots.)
It was gone the next day. I'm pretty impressive when I'm mad (little dark warlike Scotch-Irish woman).
About thirty years ago, some kid pissed off the bridge in the background over the LIRR Sunnyside yard in Queens onto a 20 kV line. Needless to say, he never did that (or anything else) again.
In my former line of work I used an AC voltage detector in homes.
You would be astonished how many appliances and other electrical devices, especially older ones, are “live” to the frame. Only thing keeping people from getting electrocuted is the insulation provided by their shoes, the carpet, the wood subfloor, etc.

In this case, it wasn’t even the pole. It was the metal plate in the sidewalk that was “hot”. The poor critter walked across the plate and got it. The dog in question was a German Shorthaired Pointer. I heard about this through rescue contacts (the Weim rescue group I work with trades assistance with the GSP “cousins”)
It’s a pretty awful situation, and could well be unsafe for people, also.
