How Does Palin Overcome These Issues To Win Presidency?
Vanity ^ | 11/24/2010 | Patrick1

Sarah Palin seems to be the favorite of the majority of Free Republic members. I still have not made up my mind about her. But if she is the consevative movement's choice to take on the disaster of Obama who has gone from The Messiah to the Mess then there are things that she will need to overcome to get 50% plus one of the American people's vote in 2012. I've listed the ones I hope her supporters can address here because failure to take these issues on will result in certain defeat.

There is a huge population of American liberal women and campus elites who resent her presence and will control enough votes to defeat her.

Books are a terrible way to judge a candidate. I suspect most are ghostwritten.

Have you read the book? Hard to judge if you haven't. I certainly would hate to base my judgements of Palin on her portrayal in the media. She had help with her book. I am guessing it is mostly in editing and organizing because the text is definitely Palin's words. The book is based on her journals she has kept since she was young. IF you remember, her book was assigned to 12 fact checkers who were bent on finding errors. Something that other authors, such as Obama, don't have to face.

The context was you wetting yourself in joy over the prospect of Mitt Romney as President.

Wow. The MSM owns your ass. Will that be the same mighty coalition that swept the midterms?

You think resigning the office of the executive of a small state government in mid-term and plopping right onto the million-dollar book-and-speech circuit is an asset? You keep dreaming.

You think all Palin has done over the last 15 months in write a book? You keep sleeping.

Interesting. Are you saying that we need to find a candidate that has the approval of 'American liberal women and campus elites'? Which pro-abortion candidate did you have in mind?

Every major media outlet in the world has someone poised on Sarah's Facebook Notes.

So? They have their job. Every time she posts a new article, it goes mainstream and viral within minutes

All that marketing and such a modicum of return. I don't feel the love from the independents.

I love her conservative instincts. The day McLame made her the VP nominee I sent in the largest campaign contribution I have ever sent. I will happily vote for her if she is the nominee.

But I have concerns about her electability. Don’t be a knee jerk flamer of me as anti-Palin ‘cause I’m not, but I’d like to see a senario of how she can win. The base will vote for her. That’s 30%. But we need another 21% from so called independents most of whom are not very politically aware and who get their information from the MSM.

Someone give me some confidence regarding national election electability.

I hope you don't mind me hitchhiking on your post...

2) The normal perception of any conservative by the MSM that she is stupid.

This is so poorly phrased I can’t make out what you mean.

If I'm reading this right - that you are claiming that the MSM paints her as stupid the same way that they paint other conservatives as stupid, then I may have a response:

I think Gov. Palin is getting around them through her use of Facebook and Twitter, as well as through her books. She has stated that she will not interview with Couric again. I think she is making it clear that she can and will get her message out WITHOUT the MSM - and they hate her for it. She is winning against them.

As far as changing the perception of the MSM that conservatives are stupid rednecks or bigots or whatever else... you can't and won't do that, and Palin isn't wasting her time trying.

To add, no one has defined the debate in the country more than Sarah Palin since Obama took office. Her articles, op-eds and other statements have been cutting edge stuff. She and Rush Limbaugh have truly been Obama’s biggest nightmare.

I didn't say that; you inferred that yourself.

I agree. We have to decide if she is Goldwater 64’ or Reagan 80’. It would help if she would say something in a forum other than Fox or Facebook.

I agree with you 100%. And I'd vote for her in a heart beat if she were the nominee. And if some one else gets the nomination and wins, they will owe her a lot, because she has been out there fighting the fight and taking the flack. Maybe that's the Republican plan, because she seems to be able to take anything they throw at her and throw it right back, and in some ways she is like a lightning rod, though not much fault of her own, she's the target the libs aim at the most. Let the left use their ammunition on some one that can deflect it and take it, and if that means she doesn't win the white house but we find a conservative that can, that would be great too. It be to funny to see Katie Couric with a stack of distortions already to attack Palin with and in walks a candidate they aren't ready for.

Not at all. I just can’t figure out what that means. I thought what you did at first, but then I wasn’t sure if it was a Freudian slip showing his/her own true beliefs, that conservatives are, in fact, stupid, as the MSM portrays them and believes the crap that he/she believes. Good answer, though, if that is what was meant. Only time will tell, if he/she hasn’t left the field already.

The problem is all your “issues” are talking points for the left, and demonstrably wrong. Classic example of “knowing so much that isn’t so....”

Come on ...

It's really easy to just dismiss these points out of hand, ignore them as not worthy of a response and not deal with them. That's just what the liberals do to defend anthropogenic global warming theory. But as a conservative who would LOVE to see her in the White House, I'd like to see some FReeper deeep thinking and answers on the question.

There was no context. I have no idea what that fragment was supposed to signify, nor do I care (and I'm sure your interpretation is doubly as wrong as it is childish) The fact that you had to go to February 2009 says some things. One, it's not relevant to this discussion. And two, you are pathetic.

Perhaps it is good political strategy but I don’t think it helps with people outside the hardcore base. She has to appeal to a broader range of voters and will have no choice if she is the nominee.

I would probably feel excited about her is she went on the Rachel Maddow show or Keith Olbermann show and destroyed them the way Ronald Reagan did RFK in the late sixties in a debate.

Conservatism defeats liberalism everytime. I wish Palin showed she believed that.
