Why Don’t Republicans Believe in Climate Change?
nytimes.com ^ | Oct. 12, 2010 | Ross Douthat

Ron Brownstein and Bill McKibben both have pieces up lamenting the ascendancy of climate change skepticism in the Republican Party. While McKibben ponders the intellectual roots of this phenomenon (a subject I touched on, as he notes, in a column earlier this year), Brownstein points out that the G.O.P. is an outlier among the developed world’s right-of-center parties:

The concern stems from the elegant simplicity of the AGW theory. We know that GHGs trap heat, we know that CO2 is a powerful GHG, we know that trophosperic CO2 is up by 40%since the industrial revolution, and there is strong evidence of a decadal scale rise in temperature since the 1870s. Taken in a vacuum, that is awful compelling. But, of course, that vacuum is a myth. To my list of unknowns above, add water vapor, urban heat island, solar cycles, limits (and worse) with climate models, and the possible benefits of some warming.

A word/concept/electronic thing I learned about when taking some FAA courses ... that word has stuck in my brain. I throw it out when people don't understand what's going on -

Weather??? Yep, its that weather hysteresis that's delaying the flight. Dang it!

"Why Don’t Republicans Believe in Climate Change?"

Perhaps they (in the words of our late President LBJ) know the difference between chicken $hit and chicken salad.

We failed the global test? Oh no!

You can trust the New York Times to always fail to differentiate the science of anthropogenic global warming from the religion of anthropogenic global warming.

Yes, the list of anomalies is endless, as are the audacity and unreliability of climate models.

Hey thanks for your time, see you always at FR!

I want my DDT, Freon, Wood, Farms, lead, decent cars, and jobs back. That’s all.

All those things and more were taken from us under the guise of “science” but it was all FICTION.

Maybe it's the email thing full of open lies, deception and distain for the public. Maybe it's the big bright orb in the sky that has always made us warm. Maybe it's a history of wildly variable temperatures on earth caused by nature herself without any input from humanity.

Maybe it's because almost everytime the government has told me they need more of my money and I get less of my freedom it's been a lie.

AGW nuts have the same methodology as political operatives of the left.

It’s obvious that this AGW movement is political with billions of government grant dollars at stake. Follow the money and you have to be blind not to see who benefits by pushing this stuff. It’s no one I know, that’s for sure.

I believe in Climate Change. It gets hot here in the summer. And it gets cold here in the winter.

Are people really STUPID enough to believe that they do?

When people are religious about something being evil, trust me, they can believe almost anything. One of the hardest obstacles to at least get into believing the heliocentric theory of the universe by Copernicus was the fact that some key theologians actually got on the bandwagon, even though Biblically, I have not found anything to suggest that everything orbits the Earth. Thank the Lord for personally owned Bibles nowadays! As for Global Warming, it’s going to be thanks for everyone having a brief overview of history of climate, and how far a departure from it’s fact so many people don’t track a great deal of the climate changes throughout history.

Have you ever checked out numberwatch? I don’t entirely agree with the British Statistician, but he covers most of the elements of religious dogma, and how AGW covers the majority of them in how the theory operates.

Why Don’t Republicans Believe in Climate Change?

Because good quality science says it's not even possible.

No Smoking Hot Spot (The Australian)

That article takes Greenhouse Theory at face value and by the criterion set up in the theory itself finds no evidence of warming on the basis of greenhouse effect.

The Hidden Flaw in Greenhouse Theory

Falsification Of The Atmospheric CO2 Greenhouse Effects Within The Frame Of Physics

Harvard astrophysicist dismisses AGW theory, challenges peers to 'take back climate science'

It Is Impossible For A 100 ppm Increase In Atmospheric CO2 Concentration To Cause Global Warming

Those four articles each show that Greenhouse Theory has no basis in reality due to a direct conflict with the known laws of physics. No wonder the smoking gun "hotspot" can't be found.

Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud

That article pretty much puts the kibosh on any serious trend of planetary warming from any cause. Think about it. If there is absolutely no sign at all of rising sea levels how could the planet be warming? Beyond the centuries long slow warming of the earth and rising of the seas of course. But that is only a few millimeters per century due to the inter-glacial period we are in.

...and that there are reasons to be concerned about anthropogenic impacts of massive GHG emissions.

I respectfully request that you read the articles linked in post #57 if you haven't seen them before.

If a liberal is pushing it I know it’s BS!

Nice bottom-line Occam's Razor answer. What are the chances that climate is the one thing liberals tell the truth about?
