School cafeterias to try psychology in lunch line

Federal officials are turning to psychology in a new approach to get kids to choose healthier foods in the school lunch line.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving $2 million to food behavior scientists to use marketing tricks to encourage kids to pick fruits and veggies over cookies and french fries.

Some of the ideas include hiding chocolate milk behind plain milk, putting the salad bar near checkout, placing fruit in pretty baskets and accepting only cash as payment for desserts.

"Hey I have an idea...how about only serve healthy food? Don’t even have the junk food there."

Won't work! You see, that would involve "choice", and there is nothing liberals and communists abhor more than giving someone a choice - the person choosing hardly ever picks what the lib/commies want them to pick.

The reason they don't take away the choices and serve only healthy foods is, it gives them a gauge to see how their brainwashing is working.

On the other hand, if we taxpayers are paying for their education, paying for their lunches, most likely paying for their health care plus the counseling needed because they are getting teased for being obese, then why should we also be paying for their Coke and Twinkies for lunch?

“We have broccoli, carrots and boiled fish over on this table. Over there we have Mock Pizza made out of carrots broccoli and boiled fish.” There fixed it. LOL

When I was growing up we had one choice for lunch unless we brown bagged it... meat/veg and an apple or jello for dessert.

Personally, I don’t want my tax dollars subsidizing one ounce of sugar. And I got through the day without a snack machine, I’m not sure how urgent it is that little Stevie can get chocolate frosted Doritos or whatever. This is a simple problem to solve. Just don’t serve anything other than good food in the schools. If they want crap to eat, they can bring it.

How about letting kids pick the food they want to eat for lunch? I remember pizza burgers. Mmmmm, pizza burgers. That was a great day at lunch.

This is a new era in America, comrade. There will be no more great days at lunch.

Eat your gruel and like it.

Or they could stop making unhealthy food taste so darn GOOD.

If that fails, they can always put up posters by the junk food carts:

Speaking of history ... I had an exchange with a TOTAL MORON on FR the other day. I finally moved on as the replies became more pathetic on his part. If I remember right he stated he was 46 or 47 years old. His historical knowledge level was that of ornery, SELFISH, SELF ABSORBED ignoramus that had the arrogance of Obama about it.

Anyway we supplement with OPEN LIBRARY. It is ORIGINAL SOURCE History. It's very good. You can download nearly anything. Here's the link for it: http://openlibrary.org/ There is another one by the Gutenberg Project that has good stuff too. We prefer the 1600 and 1700 accounts. My,my have things changed when you look at TODAY'S spin on history!

Why don’t they just put a picture of Michelle 0bama’s fat ass next to the junk food?
That should do the trick.

Couldn’t they just stop putting out the food that they don’t want kids to eat?

That's what I was thinking as I was reading down the menu. I never got french fries, or chocolate milk, or a salad bar (wasn't invented in my day). You either brought your own lunch (which was about 1/2 the school) or you got in line and paid for what was being served that day, and everyone got the same thing in the same portion, i.e. military style. If there was food left over they would call for seconds and dole it out until it was gone.

I'm sure that my description of school lunchtime above has somehow been determined to be "child abuse" and hence the current restaurant-style service and food options...?

I didn't say this:

“On the other hand, if we taxpayers are paying for their education, paying for their lunches, most likely paying for their health care plus the counseling needed because they are getting teased for being obese, then why should we also be paying for their Coke and Twinkies for lunch?”

We shouldn't be paying for

government education

lunches

breakfasts

counseling

healthcare.

THESE are supposed to be the responsibilities of the PARENTS!

Government is not a PARENT.

We should not be taxed for government education. Instead eliminate the tax and let the parent with the kids decide on where their children should go for school and PAY FOR IT. No one should be taxed for PUBLIC SCHOOLS since they no longer offer any BENEFITS in “education”.

I ate what I was served and could not leave till I had finished. I always missed noon recess when sauerkraut was severed. It was worth it.

Yes, I remember school lunch was quite yummy most days. Though I was no great fan of sloppy joes (yech). And there were only a few kids that were obese. I drive by an elementary school and see these dopey women in their fake SUV’s driving their little fat kids the 2 blocks to the school door...What are they thinking? Get that fat kid a bike and cut the computer time down to a couple of hours a week and START COOKING DINNER. This has to be explained? We are sunk.
