Gun Vanity Question - 9mm
Me | October 3, 2010 | Me

Posted on 10/03/2010 12:49:51 PM PDT by LibertyThug

I'm looking for some advice for my next gun purchase for conceal carry. I really need a 9mm. I really WANT an H&K 9mm. I am interested in the compact since I am a female.

Since H&Ks cost a pretty penny, can anyone give me pros/cons or a different suggestion? I have a Glock already, so I'm not interested in another right now.

I like diversity in my handguns. Any thoughts? Thanks!

If you really wanted diversity and had the money you would get the best compact 9mm out there, the Sphynx 3000 if you can find it.

The cheaper CZ75 copy is not bad at all I hear

The original P210 from SIG is just as good but does not exist in compact, I believe. So the compact SIG SAUER 9mm would be the US made “cheaper” alternative to that.

I dont like 380s. Too weak and yet snaps your wrist uncomfortably. It’s a weird round, imo.

Smaller 1911.....I have a Colt Defender and a New Agent...they are really a small footprint.

Try the Rugers. USA quality weapon. Don’t get stuck up in brand envy. Better to be armed than not armed due to cost.

Love my Taurus 92.

Don't like the plastic feel of Glocks.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I love my husbands new SIG SAUER P238. It’s very light and compact. Look it up on You Tube.

The men are pushing semi-automatics but you have to be careful of the recoil...some models are tough for a woman to handle. I bought my daughter a Ruger 357 revolver that also shoots 9MM. A lot softer on the kick-back AND it has a laser site. You plant that little red dot on someone's chest and you'll probably never have to pull the trigger.

My Kel-Tec is really hard to operate. Yeah, it's small but I have to use a lot of force to get the first bullet to load into the chamber and to manually unload it. I think it's a little too finicky to use under pressure.

Check out the S&W 9mm. As with the Glock it is also the choice of many PD’s. Quality weapon at a reasonable price.

HK’s customer service generally just plain sucks... unless you’re a federal agency. My good friend had minor a problem with his USP and HK would not sell him the part he needed. He had to send it back to them (paying shipping both ways) and it took several months to get it back.

Almost all calibers come in compacts now. I would vote for something bigger than a 9mm. A .40 would be the smallest, IMHO. I go for a .45 in most situations. If you just have to have a 9mm, then give a SIG .357 a try. That would certainly be better than a .380.

Don’t know what you’re wanting to pay, but all of these I have at least some firsthand experience with, except for the Kahr, and all have been reliable and good shooters.

Under $300: Kel Tec PF9/P11
$300-400 Bersa Thunder 9 UC
$400-600 CZ RAMI, SIG 250 Beretta PX4 Storm
$600-800 Kahr Arms PM9 Micro Walther PPS

Not a comprehensive list, but should get you started....

This 1911 might do... http://www.impactguns.com/store/706397871109.html

Check out if Kimber has a 9mm, I would choose their 1911 9 mm over the Springfield above.

They are single stackers 9 round mags... but very concealable and slim and nice to shoot.

I really like the reviews on this H&K P30.
My lady is a lefty, so she’s getting the P30S with the ambi-safety.
