Federal regulators are hard at work making the world a safer place for kids -- starting with the threat posed by toxic paper clips.
Never heard of a toxic paper clip? Neither have the manufacturers of science kits for classrooms across the country.

I’m shaking my head in amazement that I have survived past three score and ten without dying in agony from the countless “dangerous” items I have been exposed to in my lifetime!
Our teacher in our 2 room, 4 grades school, set up on a hill amidst rock cliffs, would probably still be in jail for allowing 1st thru 4th graders to wander the tree-studded hilltop during recess and lunch time, picking all those wildflowers which were probably exceedingly poisonous or dangerous BY OURSELVES!!!! Indeed, the flowers we called “bloodroot” because they left “blood stains” on our hands when picked were especially no doubt lethal. It’s obvious some of the critters who think up these “tests” don’t have enough real work to do.
And we could have stabbed ourselves or others with those little removable pen points we actually had to insert in holders. And not a Government agent in sight! :) Probably won’t be able to sleep tonight worrying about it.
Thanks for the ping!

Wow...what a cool kit that was! Nope...kids don’t have much
“hands-on” stuff to play with any more. Sad. Thanks for sharing that! :)
My youngest son loves things like this - he has an electric set, a chemistry set (we do together), a weather station. He also enjoys legos and such. He is always constructing something around the house. Right now on my dining room table is a mock Turner Field (Braves) made out of Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, Legos, an empty Coke Bottle and stuffed cow (you’d have to know the field to get that last part).
Both of his grandfathers were engineers so no surprises here. When he’s not building inside, he’s building forts all over the yard. But... if I didn’t limit his gaming, he wouldn’t be doing all this, he would play Wii all day!
:’) Used to be dynamite could be purchased at the local farm co-op, for blowing up boulders and blowing out stumps and the like. That got shut off around WWII I think.
In local high schools the only substance they are allowed to use for experiments is WATER.
Not even vinegar and baking soda.
Plenty of chemistry happens naturally, like in baking, but you also need to apply scientific method to your study to be a chemist.
Bulls eye on the socialist indoctrinators.
