A New Hampshire high school student shocked so severely in shop class that his heart stopped beating is suing his teacher, the school district and the city of Dover.
Kyle Dubois and his parents claim teacher Thomas Kelley did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords in their electrical trades class.
On March 11, Dubois attached an electrical clamp to one nipple while another student attached another clamp to the other. A third student plugged in the cord.
Dubois was critically injured.
I would settle for being on the jury.
They are probably looking for a juicy *settlement* of a few tens of thousands of dollars.
Shocking but please keep me abreast of the situation..:>)
So the kid thought sending 120 volts across his chest would result in what? This is like suing becaue you didn’t know a band saw was sharp.
I’m lawsuit shy... think that’s not generally the way things should be settled. That being said, if the teacher actually set up and condoned that experiment I think at the very least the same should be performed on his nether regions.
Given the overwhelming lack of detail in the story it’s hard to tell though.
Now come on. Stupid is as stupid does. Everyone knows that you don’t attach one lead to one nipple and the other lead to the other nipple... You attach the first lead to one side of the nipple and the other lead across from it on the SAME nipple. That way the juice just flows across the nipple and not all the way through the chest and across the heart. Bunch of dummies!
IN FRONT OF A HUGE AUDIENCE
When the kid refuses, he goes to jail for 30 days for contempt.
I read it as the teacher didn’t stop them. Probably wasn’t paying attention.
Oh thats funny. I did a search before posting but didn’t find my own thread, perhaps because it wasn’t posted yet.
Nice try
Too bad, he almost won the Darwin award for the year by going t!ts up. Fortunately, it seems likely that he’ll try again, hopefully before he gets around to procreating.
Makes more sense that way. If it was just a warning about electricity they were looking for their parents should have the crap sued out of them for negligence and the teacher should get his job back.
WARNING: Electricity can kill you. Be careful.
Rather than suing, he should be thanking G-d he is still alive.
If it was like my shop class the teacher was constantly running around trying to keep kids from killing themselves.
From girls with long hair around the buffing wheel to guys using the arc welder on the electrical box powering their arc welder.
“Kyle Dubois and his parents claim teacher Thomas Kelley did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords. . . “
It’s a failure to warn lawsuit. Not a “the teacher condoned” lawsuit. This kind of lawsuit is why every tool manual starts with 16 pages of warnings. Someone does something stupid with a tool. A lawyer brings a failure to warn lawsuit, the company adds another page to their warnings.
It’s hard to predict stupidity... it’s what keeps lawyers in business. GG
