NEW YORK, - A New York English professor said she was kicked out of a Starbucks by three police officers because she refused to follow the cafe's ordering rules.
Lynne Rosenthal, who gave her age as early 60s, said she got into an argument with a barista Sunday morning because she refused to specify whether she wanted butter or cheese on her multigrain bagel, the New York Post reported Monday.
"I just wanted a multigrain bagel," Rosenthal said. "I refused to say 'without butter or cheese.' When you go to Burger King, you don't have to list the six things you don't want."
"Linguistically, it's stupid, and I'm a stickler for correct English," she said.
Rosenthal said a manager called police during the incident and three officers who responded to the scene ordered her to leave the store.
"It was very humiliating to be thrown out, and all I did was ask for a bagel," Rosenthal said. "If you don't use their language, they refuse to serve you. They don't understand what a plain multigrain bagel is."
A Starbucks employee at the store during the incident said Rosenthal was being unreasonable.

I just so much prefer Panera to Starbux. Panera at least offers real (and good) food. Starbux is pretty much ONLY coffee and some pastries, maybe a small cup of fruit (for $5). Other than Starbux’s macchiatto (I think that’s what it is) I see NO reason to go there.
(the drink I am thinking of is an outrageous indulgence .. iced coffee with lots and lots of whipped cream. Haven’t had one in years but it was always a mandatory stop when driving my daughter back to college in August.. .in the hot and steamy South).
The press made such a big stink over the woman who called 911 after being SOLD chicken mcnuggets and then told that they had no nuggets and WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED A REFUND.
Made her sound like a crank for calling 911 “because they wouldn’t gimme any nuggets!”.
Were there cops already in the coffee shop or did the manager “call 911” over someone who refused to say “I want it minus cheese and butter”?
I don’t understand why you have to tip the cashier now.

Next time, go to a Dunkin’ Donuts or a Tim Horton’s nearby. At least they speak English there, not Coffee-snob!
It sounded like the lady just didn’t know how to say “I want a plain multi-grain bagel”. She clearly didn’t just verbally rip them and instead of leaving she stayed there until the police arrived. She was a twit.
I’ve encountered bad service. My wife tends to have a bit more of an issue than I, women servers tend to be a bit more testy with other women I’ve noticed. I don’t have time for game playing. If a server plays a game with me or refuses to be reasonable to accommodate me I leave and post online reviews if they are bad enough. One of the worst cases involved a Doctor, I still haven’t figured out what was wrong with that bitch but I posted a negative review on every doctor review site I could find.
Personally, I’m a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee guy. Not easy to do living in California, but I manage.
First time I went into Tim Horton’s was last fall when I was in Manhattan on business, and there wasn’t a Dunkies nearby. I was pleasantly surprised by the coffee and whatever I ate (I think it was a bagel, can’t remember). Service was typical New York, which was fine by me.
Y'all should have a lot to talk about.
Me? I miss the old Mom and Pop bakeries. We had quite a few of them around here, but they’re all gone now. Back when I was a youngin’, no one knew what a bagel was. People ate doughnuts, cruellers, pastries...plenty of sugar and fat. This one bakery near me looked like a dive from the outside, but it had some of the most decadent baked goods in the world. Then the froo-froo chains like Starbucks came along. Pretty much ruined the bakeries and coffee shops. Sometimes new is not better.

“WARNING - Not to be taken internally!” - Slings and Arrows
In 12 cup drip percolator pot, fill to 6 cup mark with water.
In filter, put 6 heaping scoops of coffee.
Medium roast works best, just make sure it’s a robust blend.
Found a maxwellhouse ‘medium roast’ that was rather anemic.
Put pinch of salt in filter, about as much as it would take to cover the surface of a dime with one even layer.
This keeps the coffee from tasting burned too quickly, it doesn’t age well brewed this way.
Brew, recirculate if need be, usually not.
Add sugar and dairy creamer.
Creamora and coffeemate are not recommended unless you like the heart racing that Ranger Pudding gives.
That, and the nondairy creamer will give you both a headache and a buzz with the coffee.
I usually put about 8 spoons of sugar in this stuff, it ends up being like Russian Kava, thick and sweet with that bitter overtone to it.
Oh, and I am NOT responsible for seeming demonic possession of the coffeepot, or the coffeepot ending up acting as if it has been damaged.
We are blessed to still have a bakery that’s been around and run by the same family for generations. They had expanded to a ‘chain’ meaning they had TWO whole outlets. Closed down the 2nd one a few years ago. The original is still there and doesn’t look a crumb different than it did 30 years ago, or well before that.
But, being a true bakery, it doesn’t have coffee or other than its (to die for) baked products. Thanks for the reminder, I’m on a diet !!
When I lived in the Dominican Republic, we went to visit some folks who lived up in the mountains. The coffee was great. It turned out to have been coffee they themselves grew. They roasted it with sugar. The beans were almost black. She pounded a bunch for me in the giant wooden mortar and pestle. It was so tasty.
