Hey all. So I understand all about food prep, munitions prep, and water prep. I'm looking for a medium length (12 - 24 month) storage solution for gas....Are the HDPE containers good enough ?

I was wondering the same thing I was planning on keep AT LEAST 10 of those red 5 gallon cans - i think they are good for long term storage tightly sealed.
I had one I forgot about in my shed for over 2 years and the gas was fine
If the poop really starts to hit the fan I am prepared to go get some thing bigger. I was wondering if those heavy duty plastic septic tanks might be good (buried too)
And an Obama bicycle for each family member.

Back in the Carter era (the late 70s gas crisis) my neighbor at the time stored multiple 55 gal drums in an outbuilding.
The stuff burned fine several yrs later.
Caveats:
this was before 5% ethanol
he didn’t use it straight, he mixed 50/50 with fresh gas
I’m hunkering down if possible.
You won’t find me driving around.
Oh yeah, there is a difference between “summer gas” and winter gas as far as ethanol content and additives. Varies state-by-state.
24 months is a LONG time for gasoline in HDPE. 12 mos. with a good bit of STABIL in it might be OK, especially if you keep it at a stable temperature so the vessel is not subjected to repeated vapor pressure cycles (increases and decreases.)
I would say that 24 mos with STABIL and the gas will still run a generator/ lawn mower/ similar, especially if you have a can of ether starting aid. But you’ll lose a good bit of the lower molecular weight aromatics out of a HDPE container, and starting a fuel injected car/truck might be iffy at/after 24 mos.
Keep it cool, dark and temp-stable, and you *might* be OK.

To store fuel, or other volatile liquids, the best thing I’ve found is the old-style thick metal Jerry Cans with rubber, or cork, seals around all the openings....
Fuel stabilizer is also recommended for any long-term storage....
storing gasoline with ethenol over long periods is not practical. Diesel is much more stable, and safer.
Doubt that’s legal. There are permits and inspections for that sort of thing.
don’t forget ethanol mix is supposed to go up to 15%.

Gasoline has a short shelf life. Diesel is stable...
I’d also keep a couple of bottles of dry gas just in case.
