I was wondering the same thing I was planning on keep AT LEAST 10 of those red 5 gallon cans - i think they are good for long term storage tightly sealed.
I had one I forgot about in my shed for over 2 years and the gas was fine
If the poop really starts to hit the fan I am prepared to go get some thing bigger. I was wondering if those heavy duty plastic septic tanks might be good (buried too)
Doubt that’s legal. There are permits and inspections for that sort of thing.
don’t forget ethanol mix is supposed to go up to 15%.
does not last long.
The 2-yr-old gas in the shed was fine for your lawn mower, sure. But did you put it in your vehicle? Did it stay cool or was this in a shed that got a lot of sun? Just askin’
Kinda what I was thinking. Just didn’t know if anyone had gone longer with other....
NO to the plastic septic tanks...Depending on your state, ( Ag exemption and all) you can usually install a double wall fiberglass tank up to 500 gallons without permits and other regulatory stuff. It must be bedded and backfilled with pea gravel. You may also want to anchor it, fuel is lighter than water and those tanks will float!
Anyhow, you will need a few bucks to install one...
I had a bunch stored for Y2K, some in the mil steel cans, but most in plastic.
And I never used Stabil or anything else.
A few years back I checked one of the steel cans. The gas was off colored and had some small flecks of what looked like oil in it.
Used it in my lawnmower, dumped the rest in my V6 Chev Blazer, both ran fine.
This year I checked one of the other metal cans. Again, gas was off colored and didn’t have a strong odor of gas.
But I dumped it in my 66 Impala with a 350 v8 and it absolutely loved the stuff!
But here’s the rub... I would NEVER use gas that old in a little 4 banger car with injectors. That’s just askin for trouble.
