Well, for heavens sake, how do you suppose the communist regime is going to know where they are when they come to get them?

Silly question....gun registration laws are designed to keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding tax-paying workers, who are supposed to be the slave labor when Progressive’s Workers Paradise is finally realized after the Cloward-Piven strategy plays out. You don’t give guns to slaves. You point guns at slaves.

Who registers guns? I do know that in Illinois, you have to apply for a permit or license to own/purchase a gun, but where else does this happen?

Gun registration is the prelude to confiscation. See
e.g. http://www.jpfo.org for more.

The ONLY reason for gun registration is so the Gov knows who and where to seize the gun from.

Gun registration is a potent form of government-mandated gun control. In that sense, it is strictly unconstitutional.

Gun registration is two fold.

First, a tax on gun ownership, because a law abiding person will pay it.

Second, so the government knows where all the law abiding citizens guns are so when they are illegal they will be easier to collect.

Nobody actually believes criminals will give up their guns nor pay the taxes.

what reason is there for permits to upgrade your home? They don’t need a reason. red tape and fees and the increased potential for future fines. That’s all the reason they need.

The official answer for a public forum is that if it is the law where you live, you should obey the law. Not registering is an excuse to have your weapons confiscated as being illegally owned.

Again, that is the official answer for a public forum. ;->

The way that I see it is .. ONLY Law abiding citizens will follow the registration laws while a criminal WILL get a weapon .. whether it is a knife, grenade, hammer, gun, whatever .. Regardless of law!?

That was the chief argument against the Handgun Control Act of 1968. The Dems were so sobbed up over King and RFK being shot (even though King was killed by a rifle), they passed it anyway.

Canada tried implementing this several years ago, with assurances from the Liberal Elite that this would be implemented efficiently and with low-cost to the taxpayers.

After multiple delays, mass confusion, utter incompetence, and skyrocketing costs, the Canadians figured it out that anything the Government tries, especially a Liberal Elite Government, never works.

The Gun Registration Database was scuttled. At least they said so publicly.

A local man was beaten to death with a TENNIS RACKET. Anything can be a weapon. My son said you could beat a person to death with a chair. True.

Don’t know how true to real life they are but .. remember the old westerns where a gunslinger gets out of prison and .. first thing he does is strap on his gun?

I don’t remember any sheriff asking whether he was registered to carry it? lol

WE don’t need them, and in fact they are unconstitutional. Amendments 2 and 4. We have a right to keep and bear arms, and a right to be secure in our persons and papers. So the gov’t doesn’t need to know what I’ve bought.

The purpose for gun registration is monitoring and eventual confiscation. There is no other purpose. As soon as the government can disarm us peacefully without political opposition, they will.

There is no reason to “register” a firearm with the government — and no Constitutional precedent to do so. Of course, there are some 20,000 “laws” in the nation “regulating” firearms, limiting them, restricting them, recording ownership, etc. MOST of those “laws” and “regulations” are patently unconstitutional — and by right could be ignored.

The only proper “restrictions” on firearms ownership should be restrictions on felons, foreign nationals and agents of foreign governments. Restrictions on carrying firearms should be limited to properties which are posted as “firearms are forbidden.” (I thinkthat can be DUMB, but property owners have the right to restrict such on their property).

In short, should the Government ever “demand” I “register” or declare my firearms, I will NOT comply. It’s NONE of their business. Second Amendment and all. So what if the Constitution is amended and the Sencond Amendment is removed or rescinded? Oh well — it’s a GOD-GIVEN right (see Declaration of INDEPENDENCE), and the “People” will have made an ERROR (see the 18th and 21st Amendments). Thus, I’ll keep my guns and fight, or they will capture me and send me to prison — in which case they will get my guns and I will be a political prisioner. Or, they will kill me — in which case I will be among the first casualties of the next “civil war.” But I won’t be alone.

There are a FEW places a DRAW A LINE and say, “this far, no further.” This is one of them.

What reason do we need gun registration laws?

"We" don't. Citizens with the right to arms don't need to register anything.

The government, on the other hand, might THINK they need this information, but they don't. Registration => Confiscation => Genocide.

"We" don't want or need to go there!

If a bureaucrat tells you that he must know if you have a firearm so he can put your name on a list for the common good, or wants to issue you an identity card so that you be more easily identified -- tell him to go to hell.

Registration of people and firearms is the required precursor to the tyranny which permits genocide. Bureaucrats cannot send soldiers to doors that are not on their list.

Only criminals will have them of course, but also; Take away the equalizer effect of a gun, and the physically strong will be able to bully the physically weak. The old and women are more easily victimized, and the strong are empowered. Society will move away from the “rule of law” and into “the strong survive”.

Obey the law, of course, but the question begs to define the point when a unconstitutional law should not be obeyed. Hopefully we won’t have to find out.

What reason if any, is there a need for registering a gun?

No good reason. Registration is volunteering for a confiscation list.
