Gun Registration? (vanity/question post)

Posted on 08/12/2010 4:38:40 PM PDT by plinyelder

What reason if any, is there a need for registering a gun?

The way that I see it is .. ONLY Law abiding citizens will follow the registration laws while a criminal WILL get a weapon .. whether it is a knife, grenade, hammer, gun, whatever .. Regardless of law!?

Hence, the question: What reason do we need gun registration laws?

Every handgun sold in California is registered. Your name is tied to the guns serial number on the Form 4473. Every single handgun. These forms are supposed to be destroyed but instead are kept forever.

That is gun registration.

To hell with Political Opposition! (There wont be any)

I’m no fan of form 4473, but it is the only real liability protection for a gun dealer if a buyer goes off on a killing spree with the purchased firearm.

There is no reason to “register” a firearm with the government — and no Constitutional precedent to do so. Of course, there are some 20,000 “laws” in the nation “regulating” firearms, limiting them, restricting them, recording ownership, etc. MOST of those “laws” and “regulations” are patently unconstitutional — and by right could be ignored.

The only proper “restrictions” on firearms ownership should be restrictions on felons, foreign nationals and agents of foreign governments. Restrictions on carrying firearms should be limited to properties which are posted as “firearms are forbidden.” (I thinkthat can be DUMB, but property owners have the right to restrict such on their property).

In short, should the Government ever “demand” I “register” or declare my firearms, I will NOT comply. It’s NONE of their business. Second Amendment and all. So what if the Constitution is amended and the Sencond Amendment is removed or rescinded? Oh well — it’s a GOD-GIVEN right (see Declaration of INDEPENDENCE), and the “People” will have made an ERROR (see the 18th and 21st Amendments). Thus, I’ll keep my guns and fight, or they will capture me and send me to prison — in which case they will get my guns and I will be a political prisioner. Or, they will kill me — in which case I will be among the first casualties of the next “civil war.” But I won’t be alone.

There are a FEW places a DRAW A LINE and say, “this far, no further.” This is one of them.

Let's take this a step further.
If someone has served their time and served that time for a non-violent felony .. Does that mean that they no longer have the right to protect themselves .. or their loved ones? HMMM?

What reason do we need gun registration laws?

"We" don't. Citizens with the right to arms don't need to register anything.

The government, on the other hand, might THINK they need this information, but they don't. Registration => Confiscation => Genocide.

"We" don't want or need to go there!

If a bureaucrat tells you that he must know if you have a firearm so he can put your name on a list for the common good, or wants to issue you an identity card so that you be more easily identified -- tell him to go to hell.

Registration of people and firearms is the required precursor to the tyranny which permits genocide. Bureaucrats cannot send soldiers to doors that are not on their list.

Only criminals will have them of course, but also; Take away the equalizer effect of a gun, and the physically strong will be able to bully the physically weak. The old and women are more easily victimized, and the strong are empowered. Society will move away from the “rule of law” and into “the strong survive”.

Obey the law, of course, but the question begs to define the point when a unconstitutional law should not be obeyed. Hopefully we won’t have to find out.

No good reason. Registration is volunteering for a confiscation list.

There is no firearm registration requirement in California except for assault weapon owners and personal handgun importers. However, you may submit a Firearm Ownership Record to the DOJ for any firearm you own. Having a Firearm Ownership Record on file with the DOJ may help in the return of your firearm if it is lost or stolen. With very few and specific exceptions, all firearm transactions must be conducted through a firearms dealer.

Law-abiding citizens will turn in their guns when the law says they must regardless if they’re registered or not. Isn’t that what law-abiding means? Besides, they’re not ever going to come after guns. They’ll do away with the ammo. and supplies or make it impossible to shoot anywhere. Registration is just another tax.

That’s a good question! I was speaking in general terms. Forgive my vagueness. I was referring to violent felonies — armed robberies, assaults, attempted murders, rapes, etc., NOT “non-violent” felonies as a general rule! thanks for letting me clarify.

I'm sure a lot of people in New Orleans said the same thing a few days before Katrina made landfall.

Registration is just another tax that volunteers choose to pay in the false belief that they are lawful citizens.

If you live in a state where private sales are permitted there is absolutely no reason to register your firearms.

Listen to the words of some famous Democrat oppressives and Socialists:

Nancy Pelosi “ We want them registered”

Vladimir Lenin
“A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie. “

There is no reason and we must change the laws and rules around this.
