On another planet, it sounds like Steven Slater and I could have been friends.
He likes swearing, beer and rubber slides. Me, too!
But Slater is an airline attendant, or steward, or whatever

What other “stupid” rules would you like the passengers and the attendants to ignore? Smoking in the lavatory? Taking too long in the lavatory? Maybe 6 Arabic looking men convening back in the galley furiously praying? What the steward did was wrong. The airline making them enforce rules that the general public choose to disregard puts them in a sticky situation. Maybe if they blacklisted a few people for not turning off their cellphones or getting up early or or or we’d not have the delays and confrontations we currently have.
The flight attendant was first abused by the passenger. He then flipped out. I am surprised it doesn’t happen more often. Every flight has at least one passenger like that.
I like that it doesn’t take long in comments about that story for someone to say something along the lines of, “in his defense she is a HPOA.”
I spent a good potion of my business flying when passengers were treated with respect and the food was pretty good. My cross-country trips on United actually had a sandwich buffet, all you could eat.
Then the trips during the late 90s and 2000 the stewardesses started acting like little Hitlers and looked like my Aunt. I got sick of them and from 2000 on my contracts had a no travel clause, except when I had to drive a few hours to monitor my subs.
I'll take the comfort and convenience of my own car over either. However, I would also take a sissy hissy fit throwing flight attendant for two hours over sitting next to the guy who smells of goats and cheese for three days.
I hate it when people try to push ahead of me when we are getting off the airplane. I make it a point to block them. The guy that grabbed his bags ahead of time probably triggered a territorial reflex in the flight attendant.
I've had the "pleasure" of riding the rails....and most of the staff were rude, bored, and lazy.
FWIW-
“I used to enjoy it, but those days are long gone.”
....me too.
Stonewalls, who remembers the days when a couple of double bourbons on the rocks and a half pack of Camel straights could make a flight managable.
Willie, do you work for, or are you in any way connected to, AMTRAC and/or other lobby groups that promote public transit?
No, I simply got fed up with the constantly increasing price of gasoline and the GOP never doing anything for 38 g-dd-m years to reduce our dependence on imported oil.
Possibly. However, the “flight attendant” is being paid to be polite, while the passengers are paying for the privilege of being abused at the airport by security personnel, and by dismissive flight attendants later on the plane. My sympathies are with the passengers.
My own millions of air miles predate 9/11, since then I may have flown twice. I still have good memories of flights, and that I would arrive at the airport 10 minutes prior to departure regularly, as a tactic even. As a late arrival I got jammed into an open first class seat more than a few times.
I also like taking AMTRAC occasionally. It is more relaxing than the endless traffic jams (in my area) and so far none of the cancellations and other problems I have faced at airports.
Sounds light the steward, sorry - flight attendent, had a hissy fit. He wouldn’t be the first. It is after all, a stressful job passing out packets of peanuts.
Another fudge-packer.
Now THAT was a treat....
Certainly not a "service industry"....but I was calling for some answers...and got ZIP, NADA, ZILCH, NYET, NONE!!
Told me I needed to find someone who knew tax law. Hell...I thought the IRS might know the rules!!
ROFLOL!!

Good point. It's mentally and physically challenging wheeling the drinks cart around, aiming for passenger's knees and elbows, too.
Don't ask for extra peanuts, either. They're not waitresses and waiters, for Pete's sake!
Now THAT is good!
Recently, I went to pick up a friend at a local airport. I left a bit early because I wanted to relax and watch some take-offs and landings. Guess what? You cannot even do that anymore, at least not there. The have closed off any access to windows and the waiting areas are like holding pens. I just do not have the patience to put up with large amounts of BS at this point, so not only do I not fly, I won't even go to an airport if I can help it.
So, to those who defend this kind of crap in the name of safety, enjoy yourselves. There will be more and more seats for you, and more room in the airports.

Yeah, that’s gotta be part of the training. BTW, is there a person in the world who does not know how to operate a seatbelt? I’m just sayin....
