The U.S. Senate has dropped a House-approved plan that would prepare the United States to defend itself from an attack from any electromagnetic pulse source whether it would be from a natural solar flare or the detonation of a space-located nuclear weapon by enemies intent on destroying America's infrastructure, according to a representative who has raised alarms over EMP.
U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., said it is "unfortunate."
"While one part of the federal government was warning us of possible solar electromagnetic-pulse damage to our electric grid, a key Senate commission approved a bill to ignore this threat," he said.

Be sure to have paper plates/dishes to save on water use (Most cook ware can be burned out and scraped), if water is scarce, and wipies, etc. to wash with. If it comes down to washing or drinking, you’ll want to be able to drink (I hope you have a filter!). Non drinkable (unfiltered water) sources can still be used for washing clothes, flushing toilets, etc. Just some things to think about!
“as in equipped for MONTHS and MONTHS”
And hopefully, by the time they pop their heads out, the world will have drastically changed (well, from what they’re hoping for)!
Someone posted a link about something called a rocket stove on a survival thread some time back.
There are all kinds of rocket stoves out there, but this one seemed the best.
Does anyone recall that?
I like the Stove-Tec Rocketstove. It is on my list of purchases, and I’ve been asking for one for my birthday (Tomorrow). If I don’t get one, I’m going to buy myself one. There are also smaller, fan driven ones that take betteries, make super hot coals, and produce little to no smoke, CO, etc. Both of these run about $60.
There is a video review on this site just down from the top for the rocketstove:

If the stove in #64 is the same, I can find a link for you, no problem, just let me know.
I like the Stove-Tec, too, and that’s what I own. The price is low and the stove itself is VERY substantial and well made. It’s nothing you can pack for a backpacking trip, but would definitely be useful for camping and in a power outage. People have even used a pressure cooker with it!
One of its best features is its energy efficiency. You can literally cook a meal using just twigs.
There’s a video on my blog demonstrating how to use the stove, www.thesurvivalmom.com. Do a search for ‘rocket stove’. You can also visit their official website, but I don’t know if they have instructional videos.
That’s the one! Thanks...
That's what I was wondering, as I have a pressure cooker/canner.
Thanks for putting me on your ping list....
:)
Here’s a link to Lehman’s Non-Electric Catalog.
It’s an Amish catalog and sells old style, living like pioneers kinds of stuff.
They used to have a barrel shaped device that was for washing laundry. You fill it with hot water and soap and clothes, and seal it up and agitate it some and it was supposed to do a great job at washing laundry.
Here is the link for the review on ChocChipCookie’s Blog:
http://thesurvivalmom.com/2010/01/26/check-this-out-the-stove-tec-rocket-stove/
I first saw it on her blog last year, and it linked to Tactical Intelligence, and there’s a 5% discount somewhere in there, I think (That’s why I linked you there). Lisa (Survival Mom/ChocChipCookie), can probably give more info about it than I can, she’s a real expert.
This is Stove-Tec’s Website, on the top right, there is a button for “Store.”

Hope these help.
SWEET! Clothes washing implements are on my list of things to buy. Thanks a ton!
I live in Minnesota; guess I'm safe from anything but beavers...
Cheers!
Yeah, who want’s to invade there? It’s be a nightmare between mosquitos and the cold. Only the roughest of the rough and bravest of the brave would stay in a disaster, and no one would come hunt you down, expect maybe the beavers. :) If you can cope, more power to you! Haha :).
Something I’ve been wondering, does soil and rock protect against an EMP? Would living in a valley help (assuming the house in question was not connected to the power grid)? Would keeping something underground help?
Cheers!
Yeah! Because he’s good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, people like him.
Is there some way I can get a refund on my taxes for all that theyre NOT doing to protect us?
If you figure it out, be sure to let me know how it works.
