Hard-partying "Mean Girls" star Lindsay Lohan will be treated for methamphetamine addiction and a mental disorder that causes wild mood swings when she goes into rehab, the gossip website TMZ.com reported today.
Lohan, 24, will be treated for meth addiction and bipolar disorder during her 90 days of court-ordered rehab following her release from jail this week -- which could happen as soon as today, her lawyer said.
The site also quoted a person familiar with the case as saying methamphetamine -- a highly-addictive stimulant also known as crystal meth -- and opiates are Lohan's "drugs of choice." Opiates are a derivative of opium and are generally downers.

My Nephew was a meth addict and it screwed him up mentally. He tried to quit but eventually committed suicide at the age of 26. What a waste of a life.

I believe the "meth" addiction for her comes in the form of her prescription Adderal, which is a brand name drug that combines (primarily) amphetamine and dextroamphetamine to treat ADHD.
I don’t think she is a meth addict either. She appears to have a problem with prescription drugs.

Used to hang out in a biker strip bar with some of my biker buddies. Most of the women were missing teeth. It was years later I learned that it was the speed, not being punched by their old men.
Probably not. HIPAA does not extend to criminal files. In most jurisdictions, it is entirely up to the discretion of the Court what remains under seal, and what does not. Remember, the case is called "The People of the State of California v. Lindsay Lohan". The same expectation of privacy doesn't apply as it might in a purely clinical hospital setting.

Right, one of the prescriptions she is known to be on because of previous court filings, is Adderal - which is brand name for methamphetamine.
When people "cook" meth at home using over the counter cold medications, they are making methamphetamine. Chemically, they are virtually identical - or so closely mirror each other chemically, that they have the same psycho-stimulative effect.
While I realize that mental illness is series (experienced it in my family) it seems to me the bipolar diagnosis is a bit overused. It seems that the mood swings caused by meth use accounts for it.
What I have seen it gives people the sense that they have an excuse for throwing temper tantrums whenever they like.
If she is a meth addict (and I truly hope she is not) she is going to get very ugly very fast.
We didn't know much about meth in the late 80’s.
I don't know where he is now, (probably back in prison) but I wouldn't care if he were dead in a ditch for what he did to my parents for so many years.
Bi-Polar seems to be more common in girls. I am not sure why. I knew an 18 year old who suffered from it. She was really sweet natured but her boyfriend once told me she could turn mean and it would totally come out of the blue. I remember she had a prescription for Xanax which I guess is prescribed for that.
She was a devout Christian but I knew she was going to have problems. Sure enough she is now 36 and has had a pretty messed up life.
I'm not a mental health professional, but I am an attorney. And any attorney who has some experience practicing criminal law, builds up at least a little subject-matter knowledge on the drug/crazy connection. If there are some therapists reading this, perhaps they add some actual expertise, but....
I think there is a nexus between some drug use (meth especially) and bipolar disorder, and that connection goes both ways - sometimes the bipolar disorder is the rootcause of the meth addiction, and other times the meth has so damaged the neural pathways, bipolar disorder (and other mental illnesses) is the end result of the meth use. IOW, just stopping the meth use won't necessarily "cure" what's ailing the addict. The damage well indeed be permanent, and have to be managed for the remainder of the addict's life.
Yep. I would have guessed heroin addiction, with the heavy duty painkiller prescribed to her. She doesn’t appear to be in any kind of pain, physical anyway, that warrants dilauded. Maybe she took the meth to keep from nodding off on heroin. Yikes.
