PROVO — The former BYU student accused of attacking a woman with a stun gun pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lessened degree of aggravated assault.

Stetson Geo Hallam, 20, had been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, following an April 6 incident that he claimed was an April Fool's joke, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

Charges say Hallam, the victim's home teacher in their LDS Church ward, pressured the 19-year-old woman to meet him so he could "give her a gift."

The woman told police Hallam waited outside her Provo apartment for her to return, then asked her to go to a basement laundry room as part of a scavenger hunt.

Once in the room, Hallam attacked her with a Taser-like weapon, pinned her to the ground and tried to handcuff her, the affidavit states. Despite the electric shock, the woman began screaming and fighting back, and at one point bit Hallam's finger, according to court documents. She later told police she thought Hallam was trying to rape her.

After being bitten, Hallam released the woman, apologized, and said it was just an April Fool's joke, the affidavit states. Police found burn marks on the woman's arm from the weapon and a bite mark on Hallam's hand.

Hallam pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 9 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

But the fall seems to be a lot greater when you have so-called "gods-in-embryo" who were previously confirmed by a person supposedly guided directly by the Mormon god.

Interesting. Just thinking about that statement. If you actually believe that you are "god in training", then it follows that what you want you should get, after all you are a god (to be).

Well, I guess I'll be the first to say it: But the victim is this case is Mormon.

She needs fellow Mormons and those who deem themselves as non-Mormon allies to stand with her.

She doesn't need "PR" types who will indirectly aid her attacker.

Although anonymous, she doesn't need to be 100% "invisible" as people seek to protect the interests of the perp and his associations.

She wants her fellow Mormons to outright condemn this man's act with no qualifications; no caveats; no finger-pointing to perps of "other religions."

She is a victim and represents other similar victims. And when these victims see men weaving and bobbing to...
...ignore her (I mean, yes, she's a "Mormon, too" -- yet why is all the "Mormonic" comments geared toward the perp?)...
...or at least indirectly "lessen" or "reduce" the crime involved, it leads these victims to "cower in silence" too when such further crimes of violent exploitation occur.

Why? Because they see how many men bow the knee at the almighty idol of image and reputation.

I find it funny that whenever a Mormon farts you’re the first one to run over and smell it.

In Chloroformian's defense, I think he'd at least post that in "Breaking News" rather than "Extended News."

Lame response full of misquotes. You are drowning in your hatred of Mormons.

- - - - - - -
Attributing motives, pan.

And please point out a SINGLE MISQUOTE in the response. The response was on point and not a single one of them was misquoted or taken out of context, I double checked.

It appears that is is NOT either me or Colo who is drowning in their hatred.

See post #23.

Secondly, I suppose you (& others) also going to complain loudly to the Lds-church owned DesNews, which published this piece???...that perhaps they shouldn't publish "self-hate" articles that in depict any "negative image" whatsoever of Mormonism...(you know, it's not exactly "faith-promoting").

Thirdly, of course the "alternative" to these kinds of articles continuing to see the light of day is to assume an "anti-free republic" angle and embrace Mayor Joseph Smith's "spirit of Nauvoo" campaign...where when the Nauvoo Expositor publication exposed a sex-based scandal of Smith's, he ordered his hoodlums to tear it apart. (Is that your recommendation?)

More like his motive was he, as an LDS priesthood holder, had a right to do as he wished, even criminal, if he ‘prayed’ about it and got confirmation.

I am not saying this behavior is limited to Mormonism, it certainly is not, however, it does show that they are no better than those they call ‘gentiles’ (everyone NOT Mormon - even Jews) even though they consistently claim they are, esp since they are working towards Godhood themselves.

I knew an LDS woman who was raped by her ex-boyfriend, because he prayed and knew she was to be his wife and so he raped her thinking she would then HAVE to marry him (breaking their law of chastity). And her bishop actually encouraged her to marry him. Mormon theology does weird things to the mind.

From the excerpted article: Once in the room, Hallam attacked HER
with a Taser-like weapon,
pinned HER to the ground
and tried to handcuff HER...
...the WOMAN began screaming and fighting back, and at one point bit Hallam's finger, according to court documents.

SHE later told police she thought Hallam was trying to rape HER.
... Police found burn marks on the WOMAN's arm...

Does anybody identify with this woman's plight? (Or is this thread only about the poster, or by extension only about the DesNews journalist who wrote it? Is that how strong the "spirit of Nauvoo" is? Who is this "spirit of Nauvoo" that he can command such a following that nearly 100% of male posters ignore this victim and instead indirectly defends perpetrators such as this?)

There’s a name for that psychological problem, just can’t think of it right now.

Cynophobia? Specifically, fear of pitbulls?

Why are young woman “taught, counseled” by young men? Shouldn't it be young women teaching counseling” young women?

No; the BIBLICAL view is that the OLDER women would counsel the young women!

Can't have ANY of THAT now; can we!?

Not if the same "spirit of Nauvoo" is operative and at loose now as was in the early 1840s. But that would be another discussion for another time & place -- about the out & out shenanigans Smith pulled to get 14 yo and other minors to "marry" him under the guise of "God said..."

In our culture, we convict Flds of such things and send them to jail...But when the "mayor-'prophet'" did it, he was "above" such things.

Some of the same posters you see ignoring the victim on this thread and indirectly defending the perp do the same in historical hindsight...they ignore the wily Smith as he preyed on young girls and about a dozen already-married women. What you fail to condemn in history (for example, those who fail to condemn the holocaust), you tend to repeat.
