PROVO — The former BYU student accused of attacking a woman with a stun gun pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lessened degree of aggravated assault.

Stetson Geo Hallam, 20, had been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, following an April 6 incident that he claimed was an April Fool's joke, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

Charges say Hallam, the victim's home teacher in their LDS Church ward, pressured the 19-year-old woman to meet him so he could "give her a gift."

The woman told police Hallam waited outside her Provo apartment for her to return, then asked her to go to a basement laundry room as part of a scavenger hunt.

Once in the room, Hallam attacked her with a Taser-like weapon, pinned her to the ground and tried to handcuff her, the affidavit states. Despite the electric shock, the woman began screaming and fighting back, and at one point bit Hallam's finger, according to court documents. She later told police she thought Hallam was trying to rape her.

After being bitten, Hallam released the woman, apologized, and said it was just an April Fool's joke, the affidavit states. Police found burn marks on the woman's arm from the weapon and a bite mark on Hallam's hand.

Hallam pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 9 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

The article is about a crime which took place. It is not an article discussing religion. That is why your Mormon bashing and spam have been removed. Stay on topic or stay off this thread. Thanks.

Wow, we can agree on something.

But don’t be so quick to assume Reagan was a yes man to the Mormon sidekick Dick Wirthlin. Among other Mormon related things, Reagan himself visited the Church welfare facilities in Utah, and had many complimentary things to say about the trip.

Like I said, I give Reagan more credit for his own intelligence.

“But don’t be so quick to assume Reagan was a yes man to the Mormon sidekick Dick Wirthlin.”

And why not? Reagan was a politician. He knew how to please constituencies and get votes. He was wise. He wasn’t a yes man.

“Among other Mormon related things, Reagan himself visited the Church welfare facilities in Utah, and had many complimentary things to say about the trip.”

Of course he did! He wasn’t there to alienate potential voters. :-)

After touring the wonders of the church welfare facilities, having mormons on his team and hearing the mormon tabernacle choir sing at his inaugural, did he become a mormon? Not that I ever heard of.

“Like I said, I give Reagan more credit for his own intelligence.”

I give him full credit. He treated people as people, regardless of whether they were mormon or Christian, gay or straight, believers in a Supreme being or atheists, etc. He knew what his vision was, worked with others and let them take full credit and accomplished lots of great stuff for America.

I’d have no problem having someone who has a different religious faith than I do working with me, for me, etc. Reagan didn’t either...

... but claim your religion is Christianity when it contradicts Christ’s words, and I will have to speak up to show that is a false claim - as did Paul, James, Jude, Peter and Christ - as well as the Christian Church throughout history.

So here we are.

best,
ampu

Why are young woman “taught, counseled” by young men? Shouldn’t it be young women teaching counseling” young women?
__________________________________________

Good question..

Why wasnt this women taught by a woman and not a man..

I’d like to know if she had an option..

For safety sake alone, doesnt the university have rules about men not being in the womans dorms/quarters ???

Was this just a rare occurance ???

Do most women have women teachers ???

Personally I would have insisted on a woman teacher...

Did anyone do a background check on this guy when he applied for the teaching position ???

This guy was carrying a stun gun...He sounds dangerous and nuts...What teacher carries a stun gun ???

I hope the victim sues the organization who appointed him... (if they sent him and would not allow her a choice of a woman teacher that she knew)

People die from being hit by stun guns and he actually used it on the victim..

Why wasnt he charged with greivious bodily injury or something like that...

I hope the “aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony,” charge sticks...

and his teaching license is pulled...

Personally as a woman, I would be careful not to be alone woith a strange man...

But this young victim was 19 and probably newly away from her safe home environment...

And what parent expects their child to be harmed by a teacher ???
