He's constantly munching carrots and saying "What's up, Doc?" And now everyone's favorite "wascally wabbit" is celebrating his 70th birthday.
Bugs Bunny first appeared in "A Wild Hare" on July 27, 1940. The cartoon was created by Tex Avery.
This was the first official appearance of the Bugs Bunny we know today, but an unnamed rabbit first appeared in "Porky's Hare Hunt" in 1938. That rabbit - voiced by Mel Blanc - used the voice and laugh that Blanc would later give to Woody Woodpecker. The unnamed rabbit would appear in four more cartoons before Bugs' official appearance.
* "A Wild Hare" is the first cartoon where Blanc uses a recognizable version of Bugs Bunny's voice.
* Bugs Bunny's second appearance in "Elmer's Pet Rabbit" finally introduced the audience to the name Bugs Bunny.
* Mel Blanc said a proposed name for Bugs was Happy Rabbit.
* Bugs has feuded with Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Marvin the Martian, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tasmanian Devil, Wile E. Coyote and others.
* In 1997, Bugs was the first cartoon character to appear on a postage stamp. That stamp is No. 7 on the top 10 list of most popular U.S. stamps.
* Like Mickey Mouse for the Walt Disney company, Bugs has served as the mascot for Warner Bros. Studios.
* Bugs and Mickey are the first cartoon characters to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
* In 2002, TV Guide compiled a list of 50 greatest cartoon characters. Bugs was named No. 1.

“Kill the wabbit/kill the wabbit/kill the wabbit!!!”
And still under copyright!
Those Bugs Bunny episodes never get old.
Although they taught me more about ration cards and air wardens than a kid in the 80s really needed to know about.
MSgt Bunny, Bugs, USMC.
Discharged from the Marine Corps in 1945, this former Marine has cetainly stayed in shape!
Happy birthday Bugs.....
An all time favorite CD of mine is titled ‘The Carl Stalling Project’. Carl wrote much of that wonderful background music associated with Bugs and Merry Melodies. This CD is a compilation of the most recognizable soundtracks from 1936-1958.......
I have never liked BB, even when I was a child. He’s rude and nasty.
He’s from New York... :-)
Birthday-observation ping!
Happy Birthday, Bugs - I always liked the way he epitomized the American attitude. My faves were from the Clampett era.
“pronoun trouble”
Love it!
It never gets old! :-D
My favorite American character of all time..
They do on TV. I love those old WB cartoons but if you see them on TV today the absurd acts of violence that made them so funny have all been censored; apparently on the assumption that if today's childred see Wile E. Coytote blow himself up, they will be motivated to imitate him, or something like that. The cartoons have been totally ruined.
