GOPJ you are dangerously naive and inexperienced. You have clearly never lived in or visited a totalitarian country. I have. You are too willing to accept deceptive practices that are employed to get liars and totalitarians elected. As soon as the electoral process is corrupted to enable liars and cheats to get into public office, the causes of freedom and liberty are lost.

It is one thing to sit here today, when there are no restrictions on what we can purchase, no restrictions on where we can go and no restrictions on what we can do and loftily pontificate on what we will and won't accept; up to the point of mass murder and death camps for our fellow Americans before we think it's time to take action. By that time, there is no action to take other than go willingly into the "shower" in hopes of extending your life a little longer, or charge the guards around you and be murdered on the spot. It is quite another to go down to the market and discover that you can't buy bread, or milk or cereal or any one of a myriad things because the market is out and doesn't know when there will be more. Those are very real scenarios coming our way because Obama’s tax increases and his unelected “czars” will punish you for being successful. Just this morning, there was a report on Fox news about his energy czar declaring that luxury shower heads would be banned because . . . . . . . he can.

Obama’s tax increases will begin to take effect next year and they will affect ALL of us by limiting the discretionary income we have. So far, Obama has seen fit to take over 3 significant industries - automobile, health and, just recently, finance. In the future, his takeover of the financial industry will make it more difficult for Americans to get credit for cars, houses and the like. You may think it's ok for the Democrats in Congress to pass all of this legislation because they won the election and, to a point, I agree with you. But we conservatives are not “walking the field” because we lost, we are witnessing the fundamental paradigm shift of everything that America represents and has stood for for over 230 years because a group of totalitarians managed to get control of our government and are destroying our way of life.

While you wait for the system to “self-correct”, the Obama totalitarians are putting things in place that are designed to ensure that the system NEVER self-corrects. How many challenges have been made to Obama’s eligibility, and how many have actually made it to the courtroom for a trial or hearing? By my count, there have been well over a dozen challenges filed and NONE has made it to court. Obama has spent nearly $2 million to seal or hide his official records, so that we can't discover the truth about him. But, you think it's ok because he won the election and the death camps and mass murders haven't been put in place . . . . . YET!! He continues his assault on the American way of life and is indoctrinating our children to believe what HE wants them to believe. But, you think that's ok because you don't see what's coming. I do.

If Obama is able to complete his radical agenda, you will likely end up (if you're lucky) living through not only one of the worst periods of your life, you will also live through one of the worst periods in America's history. And, IF we are lucky, America will survive it and return to her former position as the beacon of freedom in the world.

So, while you enjoy the comfort of your life today, remember that this time next year, you may not be so comfortable. Those taxes Obama has imposed will start to kick in. You could find yourself having to decide between gas for your car to get you to and from work, or buying food or tickets to a sporting event that you want to see. We still don't know EVERYTHING that he has in store for us but, from what I and many others have seen and heard from him to date, it won't be good.

So, when you can't watch a show on TV that you want to see because Obama’s energy czar has decided that we aren't making the switch to “green” energy sources and “sustainable/renewable” energy such as solar and wind fast enough and just orders that it happen; you can feel comfortable with the fact that it isn't death camps and mass murder, it's just TV. Besides, they “won” and the methods they employ to win just don't matter. And, when you go cast your vote in 2012 for YOUR chosen candidate and a member of the New Black Panthers, armed with his club, accompanies you into the voting booth to ensure that you vote for the “right” candidate, you can rest assured that this is just the winning party enforcing its “rights” as the “winning party”.

One domino at a time, you are losing your rights and freedoms but, as long as there are no death camps or mass murders; as long as you can still go to work in your chosen occupation; as long as you can still spend your discretionary income as you please; as long as you can still go where you want, it's ok. Do you know that, had HillaryCare passed in the 90’s, you would have to obtain permission from the government to travel from one region of the United States to another? Sort of like the old days of the Soviet Union!! But that's ok, because HillaryCare at least didn't have death camps or mass murders.

When you have a little more experience in the world you may understand that the concern that many of us have about Obama and his radicalism isn't paranoia, it's because we have either lived it or seen it unfold and have enough history under our belts to recognize what is happening. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy your life. In another 5 months or so, American Idol makes its return, and you don't want to miss a single episode of that.

Thank you for an enlightening discussion. I don't think you need to respond because we understand one another’s positions now.

Many of the wonderful-sounding ideas that have been tried as government policies have failed disastrously. Because so few people bother to study history, often the same ideas and policies have been tried again, either in another country or in the same country at a later time — and with the same disastrous results.

One of the ideas that has proved to be almost impervious to evidence is the idea that wise and far-sighted people need to take control and plan economic and social policies so there will be a rational and just order, rather than chaos resulting from things being allowed to take their own course.

It sounds so logical and plausible that demanding hard evidence would seem almost like nit-picking.

In one form or another, this idea goes back at least as far as the French Revolution in the 18th century. As J.A. Schumpeter later wrote of that era, “general well-being ought to have been the consequence,” but “instead we find misery, shame and, at the end of it all, a stream of blood.”

The same could be said of the Bolshevik Revolution and other revolutions of the 20th century.

The idea that the wise and knowledgeable few need to take control of the less wise and less knowledgeable many has taken milder forms — and repeatedly with bad results as well.

One of the most easily documented examples has been economic central planning, which was tried in countries around the world at various times during the 20th century, among people of differing races and cultures, and under government ranging from democracies to dictatorships.

The people who ran central planning agencies usually had more advanced education than the population at large, and probably higher IQs as well.

The central planners also had far more statistics and other facts at their disposal than the average person had. Moreover, there were usually specialized experts such as economists and statisticians on the staffs of the central planners, and outside consultants were available when needed. Finally, the central planners had the power of government behind them, to enforce the plans they created.

It is hardly surprising that conservatives, such as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in Britain and President Ronald Reagan in the United States, opposed this approach.

What is remarkable is that, after a few decades of experience with central planning in some countries, or a few generations in others, even communists and socialists began to repudiate this approach.

The above was written by Sowell - one of our best minds... And history backs him up - the “few, the wise” inevitable morph into tyrants because command systems are totalitarian by nature...

"When" they cart people off to death camps isn't the issue. Doesn't matter if it's the middle of the night or at noon. That's the crossed line. As far as people not getting jobs because of their opinions - that's legal. As it should be... It's a free country.

Four members of the New Black Panther party intimidated voters. So it's already happened. Fifty years ago it was common in the South - only then it was White Citizen Council members intimidating blacks. Voter intimidation is wrong - no matter who does it. Blacks dealt with it with great courage and nonviolence. Today, they can vote without problem. If it happens to us, we'll have to deal with issue in similar ways. Through the courts, protesting in the streets, guilt trips... whatever. Violence is a last resort.

As far as congress passing laws we don't want ... what can I say? If they do it long enough, they'll be voted out. If they're not voted out in free elections it means the laws they're passing are what people want.

I have no problem fighting - and will stand shoulder to shoulder with you under the right circumstances. My "circumstances" at the time are death camps - any group of Americans being carted off to them... Death camps can happen here - we're not totally unique. But we can move to stop that type of thing from getting out of control. We need plans and to be ready to open our homes to potential victims - basements, attics, whatever. And provide support for resistance if it comes to that. It'll take coordination and awareness. It's possible - unlikely - but the stage is being set... we'll be having bad economic times in a few years - and people will be looking for a "strong leader" to make it better. That's often the first step toward "camps"... If you have the time, get The Definitive Edition of The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek. He outlines how it can happen - step by horrible step...

Sowell has also written a good piece on the "wise" command type leaders - and how historically it doesn't work. Here's a link: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2559453/posts

I hope you're having a calm and happy week...sounds like last week was frantic...

Choose this day how you will serve; Will you serve unwillingly and at the bidding of others wearing the yoke of socialism or will you hold true to the course of our forefathers’ standing tall and serving freely? As for me I choose to SERVE THE REPUBLIC!

I choose likewise!

That’s one of the standard troll behaviors on FR.

“It’s hopeless, we’re doomed, all is lost, no one can do anything, give up” etc.

I spit on such talk. Orc talk, coward talk.

Read my tagline! (C.S.Lewis, no room for his name)

I will stay here and fight.>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This is my resolve as well. Our patriot continental army will reconvene after 200 years of silence.

Wife and children will be sent outside the country until safe to return. The plans are in place.

America SHALL NOT devolve into Zimbabwe as long as I live and breath.

I think a lot who are not trolls engage in defeatist "woe is we" talk too. Or else there are a heck of a lot of trolls.

Glad to see that B-Chan is gone. Besides being a monarchist who openly said he wouldn't lift a finger to defend the U.S. he had other issues as well.

Whether such defeatists are actual trolls trying to instill hopelessness, or just regular defeatists cowards - the result is the same, so they are equally at fault.

If someone is a defeatist, they should shut the * up and listen! And maybe gain some heart and spirit!
