FORT WORTH, Texas- A Texas woman said her father receives so much junk mail that his house is full of letters and on a recent day he received 96 pieces of mail.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the Fort Worth woman and her 81-year-old father, whose names were not released by the newspaper, said the man's house is littered with junk mail, including a 3 1/2-foot pile of letters on his breakfast table.
The woman said her father, who received 96 pieces of junk mail Monday alone, gives about $2,500 a year to various charities and began receiving junk mail in amounts too large to fit through his mail slot about a year ago.
The daughter said she has been mailing the companies to ask them to take her father off their mailing lists, but the process has been slow.
"How many others is this happening to?" the daughter asked. "This isn't right. Our seniors shouldn't be treated this way."
Why not call the company on the ad?<<<<<<<<
Thanks for reminding me that I do call which ever companies stuff advertising under my windshield wipers when the car is parked in public. I tell them I will never, under any circumstances, partake of their product/services.
Have done that for some junk ad people recently who placed slick flyers right in front of my door, and I slipped on one of them and nearly went off the porch. Ripped into that company but good.
LOL... in college one of my buddies signed me up for this “romance novel” type of book club. Hundreds of books later I finally convinced them to stop sending them, as I wouldn’t be paying for them.
One mailing list that simply amazes me is Cabelas. It’s like every week there’s a couple of huge catalogs... and then a few times a year they send their MONSTER hard-bound master catalog... it MUST cost a fortune to do all that.
Now when I donate I tell them "if I receive even one piece of mail soliciting funds you will never receive another donation". None have complied which is why now I only donate cash.
If the post office actually just delivered "mail" it would be broke in a week
I hate junk mail with a passion. My wife loves it and if she got her hands on it, it will sit all over the house. I am the one that gets the mail and the junk doesn’t even make it inside ! It gets filed away in the trash can at work.
One junk mailer in particular is Advo out of Connecticut. Their mail is a “pile of trash” that goes into the box and I hate the stuff since I have to look through it in order to find legitimate mail. I actually had them stop sending it to me. Also every 5 years, you have to “remind” them not to send it as well. Recently, the same company started sending their newspaper trash through the mail on a different day in lieu of putting it in the Sunday paper. It is sent under a different name. What pissed me off, I was already on their do not mail list and they still send it to me under the different name.
Just like the spammers, these people insist on dumping junk into your mailbox that you don’t want and it is frustrating and a waste of my time having to deal with it.
I feel for the mailman that has to carry all that crap around,
Now when I was growing up, there was a kid down the street (John) that used to torment me. Not being the violent type - but devious - I used to go into bookstores and collect all those "blow-in" subscription cards that they insert in magazines by the score. I'd then fill them out and mail them using this kids name and address and he had to spend the next few months explaining to his parents why he had subscribed to Playgirl, bridal and body-building magazines. I then had an older cousin call the house where he would leave voicemails in a lisping voice about what a great time he had the other night with Johnny and if he could see him again some time real soon.
Also want to add, it is interesting the tree huggers don’t say a word on the scrooge of junk mail. Their silence on it is deafening ! But also junk mail attacks the quality of life, therefore they are silent on it.
You assume I am not 81. .-) Or that I have not or am not taking care of an 81 yo.
Get on a “suckers’ list and you’ll never be lonely again.
And we are all paying for this wasteful offensive annoyance.
Pack the junk mail into junk mail return envelopes...Make it weigh a half pound....Then send it right back to these intrusive AHs.
I concur. I have given to a lot of different charities, political advocacy groups, and candidates over the years.
The deluge of solicitations I receive every time I open my mailbox is startling to say the least.
No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.
:-(
I got a liberal ex-boyfriend onto Pat Buchanan’s mailing list.
HAHA! Yep I learned that lesson over time.
I don’t weight it down but I do waste the return envelope ! This is especially for the credit card companies !

No.
They're one of the sources of our trash. I don't know how many copies of the Watchtower I've thrown away.
Big problem with seniors, dont let them give any money to anybody, or your house will fill up & phone never stop ringing from beggers, industrial strength beggars.

So true. My late FIL was a very, kind and giving man, and they had his number. My mother got a lot of charity junk mail, as well, because she couldn’t say a “no” to some organizations.
I don’t understand why the daughter does not just get rid of the stuff. It is probably overwhelming for the old man.
Pack the junk mail into junk mail return envelopes...

I always do that if there is a return postage envelope included.
