When people like that get drunk and angry...they say and do outrageous things that they would not normally do--things completely out of character.

Public and private faces are very different things- for all of us. I wonder if ANYONE would want a camera and recorder on their private lives? We all have our dark side.
However, that said- this is a celebrity whose anger and violence is ugly indeed. I doubt that he is unique- and I’m quite sure that well- thought of ‘stars’ of the past( I’m thinking, maybe, Errol Flynn)had very ugly sides. What makes GIbson really-cringe-worthy is the contrast of religion( his own church, the Passion) and personal darkness. But then, it is the most guilty who sometimes overcompensate by filling their homes with statues and being publicly uber-pious-until the dark side wins.
Gibson is self-destructive- and there’s no way this ‘girlfriend’ didn’t know before she took up with him. She got a man who would cheat on his wife and leave 8 kids. No prize as a human. But maybe the prize was $$ all along.The baby is money in the bank.
I fell sorry for his ex-wife( did she live through this too?) his children seeing this side of their father, and a baby who has no hope of decent parents.
What a fool. Throw away the family- now the career. Even in this day of ‘apology forgives everything’, the ultimate sin is not the violence but the racist language. Eventually, I believe he would be be forgiven everything- short of murder- except that.

We all love beating Mel up and I don’t doubt that in some cases, he deserves to be beaten up. But, let’s consider this from another approach - did Oksana set him up? Listen to her responses during his rant. She’s very calm. You can almost hear her smiling on the other end of the phone call that she is recording because she got him to Vesuvius all over her - AGAIN!!
Affairs of the heart are very delicate and, when passions are involved, even the most sane, rational person can be driven over the edge. To date, we’ve only heard Oksana’s side - which means that we have only heard the conversations she has recorded and released to Radar (all the while claiming she knows nothing about the recorded conversations).
I’m not defending Mel, but in all fairness, I think this is one-sided and the DBM is very happy to shine a spotlight on a raging fire.
And, yes, I clicked on this thread just to leave this particular comment. I was prompted by the 10th thread I've seen on this junk. Another part of our society just calved and fell into the waters of depravity.
Alcoholism is a progressive disease but I can’t help thinking Oksana is screwing with Mel’s head. There doesn’t seem to be much context to these......she’s calm as a cucumber on the other end and is likely pushing his buttons. Who knows what she has done to screw with him. My ex used to try to do this to me until she realised that she couldn’t get the reactions from me that she was looking for....sometimes people will push your buttons so they can then point at you and say, “See, it’s him/her! He/She is the crazy one.”
Mel is obviously fueled by booze soaked pain and he would have been smart to calmly extricate himself from this situation. It’s hard but I suppose he loses control and whammo, she’s got him. Not that I am condoning anything that he said and the way he is treating her. There’s a baby involved and that should change everything.
Obviously his behaviour is not acceptable with an infant daughter being involved but Oksana should also realise that when dealing with an alcoholic of his advanced nature the best thing to do is go no contact in this type of situation. She seems like she’s trying to destroy him when in fact he needs help, and likely 6 months to a year in an Arizona rehab.
Mel is a drunk. Until/if he gets clean, no amount of criticism, ridicule, counseling etc. will make a dent in his behavior.
All of these threads and outraged responses will ever be anything but noise.

There’s no reason Mel can’t continue to produce great pics. The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto (highly underated IMHO) for example. He doesn’t need to act.

On the whole I think Mel Gibson is the victim here.
His privacy has been systematically invaded by other people with their own agenda.
Nobody brings up the fact that Oksana has a 13yr old son with Timothy Dalton, who’s career was white hot that many years ago. I’m sure Oksana made a bundle from that “transaction”. Since there is no evidence of a son now, maybe Timothy Dalton bought out her custodial rights. Personally, I think Oksana’s money ran out so she made a pitch for married man Gibson, and now via the baby, has a guaranteed income monthly for the next 18-25 years. Meanwhile, Gibson, after Robyn got her 1/2 share of the money (well deserved imo), and now Oksana is dickering over her $20 million payout, plus $10,000 a month, the now unemployable Gibson is starting to feel the pinch. Nothing is a more bitter pill than knowing you’ve “been had”.

#2 Was this a setup? We don’t know what the woman might have said to piss set Mel off before she hit her record button.
#3 She tried to get paid in exchange for the tape from Mel.
#4 The first wife of Mel (28 years) just filed something with the court saying Mel in twenty eight years was NEVER violent with either her of the children.
I would love to have heard a recording with neither knew they were being recorded.
I think Mel is a big talker and that his gal pal was quite the greedy tool herself.
