Was the ZOT a benevolent force in Latin America?
Posted on 07/06/2010 11:06:53 AM PDT by DrBombbay
For decades the CIA has undertaken operations all over the world to support right wing regimes. In Latin America and elsewhere there tho it seems thier efforts often led to massive amounts of death of civilians with the US govt often looking the other way. Would you folks say the ends justified the means regarding the many regimes the CIA propped up and supported in the name of 'anticommunism'? I dont beleive the idea of imperialism was at play, but its clear the safety of US interests (political and economic) were clearly the goal in these operations

We abandoned the Shah, and Khomeini came to power. And for 30 years, Iran has been a major exporter of terrorism. Let me rephrase that one for you: Ass-hat Jimmy Carter abandoned the Shah, and Khomeini came to power. And for 30 years, Iran has been a major exporter of terrorism.
There. Fixed it.

When the ZOT is for your own good it is in fact benevolent. Of course the one receiving the ZOT rarely sees it that way. But that is because they are busy becoming troll flavored cat food.

In case you are still watching, George Irbe discussed your point in "Leftists":
The 20th century will be remembered for the totalitarian monsters of various stripes who conceived, planned and executed programs of selective mass extermination of humans. I think that all Leftists, without exception, including the meekest of democratic socialists, have been implicated - knowingly or in consciously cultivated ignorance as apologists for, or accomplices and abettors to the crimes of the totalitarians . . . . It is a fact that the Left of the western democracies has never condemned and always at least acquiesced to and excused, if not applauded, the atrocities of the totalitarians. It is a favorite tactic of the Left to find moral equivalence in the outrageous actions of totalitarian regimes and the defensive responses to such actions by the western democracies.
In similar fashion, the Left has obstinately refused to acknowledge the guilt of Leftists who have been caught and convicted for spying and other traitorous activities against the democracies. If anything, our Leftists have consistently regarded Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Ho-Chi-Minh, Pol Pot, for a while Hitler, and all their minions as being kindred spirits of the same faith. And if anything, these bloody dictators are admired by Leftists to this day for their bold actions. Yes, Hitler also belongs in the suite of Leftist icons . . .
http://pages.interlog.com/~girbe/leftists.html
Democrats once believed supporting a regime which was authoritarian, if there was no alternative, was justified in order to defeat totalitarianism. Those Democrats still around are now Republicans.
