I can’t watch because of my dial-up connection but I saw a program showing the original people in the pilot. They probably would have been OK but the cast is probably what made a pretty stupid show do so well.
Also the basic idea of being stranded or lost on a desert isle has always fascinated people.
Oh yes, Mary Ann.
The pilot show as narrated by creator, Sherwood Schwartz, is delightful.

Carroll O’Conner auditioned to be The Skipper.

Bump for later.

My question is why, when someone finally arrived to rescue them, they don’t find the dried bones of “Little Buddy” dangling from a tree, on multiple counts of attempted murder...
I don’t think I ever realized the original professor and Ginger weren’t Russell Johnson and Tina Louise, and that there was “Bunny” and not “Mary Ann” (Dawn Wells)....Interesting. Did this Pilot ever run on TV? I’ve seen a VERY similar episode, but with the “regular” three cast members when they were first shipwrecked...?
A friend of my Aunt’s named Kit Smythe was the original Ginger. She appeared only in the pilot episode.
