They left for a three-hour pleasure cruise...Shipwrecked on an uncharted South Pacific island, seven stranded castaways struggle to survive the outdoors, as well as one another, in this original pilot to the wonderfully wacky comedy series. This black-and-white pilot was not aired in the original broadcast run, and the stars, story and characters and theme song were changed significantly.

My question is why, when someone finally arrived to rescue them, they don’t find the dried bones of “Little Buddy” dangling from a tree, on multiple counts of attempted murder...
That would have been a horrible decision. Johnathon Harrison (Dr Smith) made that show.
I don’t think I ever realized the original professor and Ginger weren’t Russell Johnson and Tina Louise, and that there was “Bunny” and not “Mary Ann” (Dawn Wells)....Interesting. Did this Pilot ever run on TV? I’ve seen a VERY similar episode, but with the “regular” three cast members when they were first shipwrecked...?
Dawn Wells turned out to be an idiot but she sure was pretty and no one filled out shorts better than her.
>>Carroll OConner auditioned to play Dr. Smith on Lost In Space.

The "Lost In Space" pilot didn't even have the character. Then, when he was added, he was supposed to be killed off after six episodes.
Guy Williams, June Lockhart and Mark Goddard (although they liked him personally) were not happy with the permanent addition of Jonathan Harris to the show.
Eight or ten years ago on TBS.
Thanks!
I’ve been watching there for the past few months. Nice to see the episodes uncut.
It eventually ran on TBS and possibly elsewhere.
A friend of my Aunt’s named Kit Smythe was the original Ginger. She appeared only in the pilot episode.
I think that’s because they preferred the show be more serious as the early B/W episodes were. The reason it turned “campy” and “cartoonish” was to compete with Batman.
Exactly. And the scripts tended to focus on Smith and Will Robinson. Season One was very well written.
Re: “That would have been a horrible decision. Johnathon Harrison (Dr Smith) made that show.”
Correction: Make that “Jonathan Harris”

Actually, what I said couldn’t have been correct since “Smith” was there from the very beginning (minus the unaired pilot). But it does explain why some of the cast were somewhat disappointed in the series following the switch to camp. Of course most of the silliness revolved around Harris’ character, Dr. Smith.
I like Ginger better heh,,the Prof is more like Rock Hudson then the pref they stuck with eh?
You’re welcome. I think if you let the entire video play once (without watching), on a replay, you won’t have any annoying commercial interruptions when you do watch. This might be true for all of these watch free online sites. Just guessing on that, however. Worth a try, IMO, if you’re like me and hate commercials.
True, but the original plan was to kill Smith off in episode 6.
