New PC: WinXP or Win 7?
FreeRepublic ^ | 6/30/2010 | Oshkalaboomboom

My old computer died the other day and I'm picking up a new one tomorrow. I always load the OS myself and for the last few times I've stayed with XP Pro SP3 because it's stable and reliable for what I use the pc for. I've heard decent things about Windows 7 but for now I'm thinking of staying with XP. If you had the chance to reload your pc today would you stick with XP or move to Win 7, and why? No flavors of Unix are an option, I'm sure it's a great OS but I want Windows for this one so just opinions on those 2 please.

7, deluxe edition, it’s fast, it’s got cool features, and it can make XP virtual machines just in case you really need one.

Windows 7, because it works and is half the price of a Winbook Pro.

Win 7, unless you like paying 2.4x more for Mac products.

Without a doubt, Win7.
Especially on a new machine.

I bought Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit....Then had to go to 7 Professional for another 80 bucks to run the old programs.

I recommend Windows 98. It’s +91 better than Windows 7.

7 without question. XP is decent but will no longer be supported. 7 fixed the Vista problems and seems to be a pretty strong operating system.

If it has 4 gigs of ram and is a 64 bit machine, you’d be crazy to not load Win-7 64.

If it’s 1 gig of ram you’d be crazy to not load XP.

I don't do windoze, linux only, but a client/friend bought a new laptop that had Vista on it and wasted no time in getting 7 for it. Only problem he had was stereo bluetooth drivers, which we resolved.

Based on that experience, I would have to vote for 7.

Actually I prefer W2000. I have had XP for a while because of a couple of incompatibilities in W2K but I have found patches for those and am going back.W2K does a couple of things that I depend on very easily that are laborious in XP and 7. I don’t even consider Vista.

Win 7 .. and if you get Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate... it includes Windows XP that runs in Windows 7 as a virtual machine... but confirm the CPU supports virtual machines
