I’m Mad at Christians | Victoria Jackson
NFRA ^ | June 9,2010 | Victoria Jackson

Posted on 06/30/2010 8:32:19 AM PDT by Kimmers

I was sitting in Church-Lady Helen’s living room. Someone commented on the illegal immigration problem. I said, “For some strange reason our government doesn’t know that illegal immigration is illegal.” Pious Helen stuck her nose in the air and proudly declared, “I never discuss politics.”

I felt like I’d just been punched in the face.

Is it a sin to watch the news? Maybe it’s okay to watch it, but not to talk about it.

I was sitting in the pew of my old church, sucking on a Coffee Nip, 30 calories, and mentally calculating my caloric intake of the day….so far, I had about 970 calories left for the day if I was to lose 20 pounds by…I focused on the sermon again.

The pastor said, “Okay…I’ll just come out and say it. (angry face) Instead of clicking a button and sending out some email information about the President…why don’t you spend 15 minutes praying for him?

He was looking right at me.

My mind shouted back at him, “Why can’t we do both?!”

I do both.

Are Christians allowed to read and think ? Or are we only allowed to pray?!

Now, when I say, “I’m mad at the Christians,” I include myself. I am a Christian. And, I must confess, if I am to be truthful, that…okay, I’ll just put it out there…the first time I ever voted I was forty something. There I said it. I know. It’s embarrassing. But I’m trying to make a point. It was the year Clinton said, “…that depends on the meaning of the word ‘is’.” I snapped. His adultery didn’t shock me so much. I had three preachers already who had done that. It was that haughty look, lack of shame, and zero repentance combined with that asinine sentence…the meaning of the word ‘is’ . That is what led me to the voting booth. I know. I’m sorry. Well, I always thought politics was for the middle age people. But then, one day, I was the middle age people.

So, I voted Clinton out. My vote counted. Bush won.

Back when I was 18 and first got the right to vote, I asked my Dad who I should vote for.

He said, “Anyone with an R next to their name.”

I said, “Why?”

He said, “They’re closest to the Bible.”

So, I voted for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Ross Perot. No, just kidding.

I didn’t vote for anyone. I didn’t know how. I didn’t know where to go. I never saw a sign that said, “Vote Here.” I didn’t know how to “register” or even that I had to register. I didn’t know what the candidates stood for or how to find out. Word of mouth I guess, but no one I hung out with talked about politics, ever.

Al Franken told me once that his family discussed politics at the dinner table every night of his childhood. My family discussed the Bible every night at the dinner table. *Maybe that’s why the Liberals are running the country and not the Christians.

Also, Liberals consider Liberalism their religion. Therefore, they dedicate their souls to the State and we give our souls to Christ. But, I still don’t see why we can’t give our souls to God and our thoughts and energy to Him by being informed and involved in our culture, and keeping our freedoms protected and our country safe. I’m thinking, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10 ) So, I’m a U.S. citizen and I should be one with all my might. I should vote with all my might, which to me means be informed, be involved. “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” (Mark 16:15) It doesn’t say ‘go into all the world, except the political world.’

We need candidates who represent what we believe in. Where will we find them? Look in the mirror.

In my 20’s, Reagan was President. I felt secure. I didn’t have to vote. The middle aged people had handled that for me. I did a handstand on the SNL Update desk to celebrate Reagan’s trip to Rejeivich. He went there, ended Communism, and tore down the Berlin Wall with his charm, courage and deployment of Pershing and cruise missiles in Europe. That’s my President. I am safe.

During my “SNL” years, I even did an Update piece on “Terrorists” but I made a big joke out of it. The word “Terrorist” meant nothing to me back then. I filmed my two year old swinging in the park on the Upper West Side and told Dennis Miller I was “looking for terrorists.” The joke was I was just using the news as an excuse to show home videos of my baby because I was a new, proud Mommy.

When I voted Clinton out, I forgot about politics for a while. The Bushes were in and I felt safe again. They knew the meaning of the word ‘is’.

Most of my pastors would not touch politics. I assumed they were afraid of losing their tax-exempt status and rightfully so. They are there to win souls, not pick presidents. But…

What if a fire is about to consume your neighbor’s house, are you supposed to just pray? or maybe pray and scream, “Fire! Fire!” and run over there and try to pull them out of the flames and save them…and their pets?

My friend Jimmy Labriola likes to say, “God Moves Mountains, But You Bring The Shovel.”

**It’s very interesting that Jewish synagogues and African American churches are saturated with political speech, but in evangelical churches it is strictly forbidden.

During the 2008 election, I asked a preacher relative of mine, “Why aren’t Christians getting involved in keeping this Marxist out of office? Don’t they know that in all Communist countries Christians are persecuted?”

He replied, “The church is supposed to win souls. Then, the people will vote the right way.”

I said, “Ooookaaay…but, I have a couple Christian friends who are voting the wrong way…

… And, you do realize that the Progressives consider your preaching “hate speech” , and there is a new law from Henry Waxman that could be “interpreted” in the liberally dominated courts to send you to jail for preaching the Bible.”

He shrugged.

He could get involved. But, no. Just shrug.

I have Congress on my speed dial now. Is that a sin?

I searched my soul. Jesus said all the commandments can be condensed into these two; “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and mind, and Love thy Neighbor as thyself.” ( Matthew 22:37-40 ) I think that means I should put God first and then, fight for my neighbors’ freedoms and protection, and help him out when he’s in a jam.

Proverbs 3:5-6: “…in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.”

I try to do that:

I acknowledge Him in my stand up act.

I acknowledged Him in my recent college graduation.

I acknowledge Him in my political blogs.

I assumed that my fellow Christians were educating themselves along with me. They get Beck, Hannity, and Rush. They have brains. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” (Proverbs 1:7)

Alas, they were not.

I spoke at a Tea Party in the Bible belt, where I have many conservative Christian relatives. Not one came.

What gives?

“Evil succeeds when good men do nothing.” Christians WAKE UP!

One friend owns a restaurant chain. I asked him, “Doesn’t this Obamacare affect your business? In a bad way?

He replied, “Um…yeah, but that’s not for four years, right?!”

???!!! What?!

So, come on brothers and sisters, quit preaching to the choir and acting perfect in front of each other. Go out into the real world and preach the gospel in your schools, in your work, and in your vote.

That’s what Jesus would do.

Practicing Jew and brilliant thinker, Dennis Prager said on his radio show recently, “If we’re going to take our country back, the Christians are going to have to get involved.”

I interviewed a few Christian friends. I asked them why so many Christians are not involved. Their answers:

“Don’t let politics get in the way of your mission.”

“A political leader cannot change society, only a changed heart can. A heart changed by Christ.”

“Some people have the gift/talent of politics. Some people have the gift/talent of art, or singing, or business.”

“I’m afraid to get involved. I’ll probably get audited or something.”

“I don’t want to make enemies.”

“I’ll lose clients.”

“We are from another kingdom, not this one. We are not of this world.”

“It is the end times. Jesus is coming back soon. The death of America and a one world government is inevitable.”

Jesus is coming back but He doesn’t want us to sit by the window and wait. He wants us to live in the present. I’m thinking, show up at a Tea Party with Ephesians 6:12 on your poster. Call your Congressman and pray for them on the phone. Teach your children about the founding fathers and basic civics. Read the Constitution with them. Tell your Representative # 202-224-2131 that abortion is murder, and you don’t want your taxes funding it. Tell Reid, Pelosi and Boxer that you don’t want the government deciding whether or not you get chemotherapy when you have cancer. Support Sekulow and ACLJ. Call the FCC Complaint Line # 888-225-5322, press 1-3-0 to speak to someone. Tell them you want to keep your Freedom of Speech, and your Conservative and Christian radio. Call Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd, # 202-418-7390 and tell him that “diversity” means Christians and Conservatives are allowed to speak too. Contact the Media Research Center’s Free Speech Alliance. Watch Glenn Beck and Hannity. Compare them to Joy Behar and CNN. Who is lying? Seek the truth. I know we don’t have time. We are raising families and going to work and soccer games and church. But…

Life is a mission field. Politics is just one small slice of life. Waving the banner of Christ in the political arena is just as important as waving it on a mission trip to Mexico or Haiti, or waving it in a jungle in Africa.

Let’s put Jesus back into politics. He can fix it. He can fix anything. Luke 1:37.

Because they get audited by the IRS everytime they do.

I always knew I liked Victoria !

My take on so called Christians that vote the wrong way? They are not Christians, that`s my take. If you support abortion of any kind, then I believe Jesus will simply say....I never knew you, away with you.

unimportant side note....If Victoria lost 50 or 60 lbs, she would again be a knockout, perhaps only 40 lbs even.

I’ve always found that when Christians don’t want to talk about politics, they tend to be democrats in the closet. The touchy ones really want you to pray for the president instead of bashing him.

I have found that a good percentage of “Evangelical””Christians” are nothing more that spineless, gutless little weasels who would roll over and piss themselves when someone would walk up to them and say BOO. Most “Christians” today would feel VERY much at home in Loadacia(See Revelations).

Ummm V? You didn't vote Clinton out. His 2nd term was ending.
You slammed the door shut on Gore though. Good job!

Good article Kimmers. I often wonder if some Christians actually think that the being thrown to the lions mentality is some sort of analogy to that of Jesus being crucified? The question is: how do we motivate them?

Victoria needs to get out of a liberal church.
I wouldn't associate with a church that wasn't "engaged".
Real Christians should be at Tea Parties, Freeps, gun ranges, RKBA rallies, etc.
(As well as rescue missions, prisons, abortion mills, etc.)

Fantastic! She addresses a very good subject - why Christians are afraid to speak out as Christians first and then in politics. Why is it that black churches have no problem with this? Why is it that a liberal can consider themselves a Christian yet vote for a pro-abortion candidate? Or a Republican either for that matter? Why do pastors NOT take a stand for issues, not candidates but issues? How can you be a follower of Christ and a believer in God and support a candidate who openly admits to being gay or votes for late term abortion? If more voters prayed before they decided who to vote for, maybe open their Bible and read and learn where God wants us to go, then we would not be in the big mess we are now!! And I include myself in that as well.

Just as the government has been infiltrated by Marxists/Progressives, so too have the leadership of the organized Christian religions. Remember that the Pharisees and Sadducees decided to kill Jesus. Jesus is the head of the church. No other leaders can substitute and all men fall short. The point is that we should look to the gospel for answers to situations not the church leadership.

I was banned from a Christian website a number of years back. It was because I pointed out someone was lying and I stated clearly and proved it. One of the mods countered with a set of lies and I called him on that as well and I was essentially told to accept lies without comment or be gone. I chose gone.

Ironically, I'd initially stated just that the OP was so bad it didn't deserve comment but was called out by the mod for not being specific...but obviously he didn't like when I was both specific and accurate.

That's all long in the past. There are just people like that in both Christian and non-Christian circles.

Bless Victoria Jackson for speaking out.

I just finished reading this excellent article by Wayne Jackson: [I don’t know if Victoria and Wayne are related, but, their subject matter is related. ; ) ]

http://www.christiancourier.com/articles/1499-national-security-the-real-solution

National Security – The Real Solution
By Wayne Jackson

Those conversant with the Scriptures are surely aware of the fact that God expects individuals to strive for personal righteousness. What is not so
well-known, however, is the fact that Jehovah demands a certain level of
righteousness for nations as well. “Righteousness exalts a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). David exclaimed: “The wicked shall be turned back into Sheol. Even all the nations that forget God” (Psalms 9:17). In view of this, it is apparent that each citizen should endeavor to contribute to the righteous climate of his nation.

The following truths are taught in the Bible: (1) The destiny of Earth’s nations is ultimately in the hands of the Lord. (2) He expects nations to conform to certain moral criteria. (3) When the moral fabric of a people deteriorates to a certain point, God can and will bring that power to its knees.

Jehovah’s Sovereignty
One of the great biblical truths regarding the Creator is that of his omnipotence. Job declared (concerning the Lord): “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained” (Job 42:2). This includes, of course, the control of national powers. A fundamental truth set forth in the book of Daniel is that of Jehovah’s international sovereignty. The prophet affirmed that “the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men” (Daniel 4:17). Again, the Lord “removes kings, and sets up kings” (2:21). God is said to be “ruler over the nations” (Psalms 22:28).

The Almighty can even exalt a pagan power to punish his own people when
they rebel against him. To the ancient kingdom of Judah it was declared:

Behold ye among the nations, and look, and wonder marvelously; for I am working a work in your days, which ye will not believe thought it be told you. For lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs (Habakkuk 1:5-6).

Even in the Christian age, the inspired Paul would announce that God determines the nations’ “appointed seasons” (i.e., the duration of their existence) and the “bounds of their habitation” (the extent of their conquests) (cf. Acts 17:26).

The book of Revelation plainly teaches that Jesus Christ is “the ruler of the kings of the earth” (Revelation 1:5); indeed, he is “King of kings, and Lord of lords” (19:16). To those who respect the testimony of the Scriptures, the issue is clear—God has not lost control of the affairs of this earth!

National Security
Contrary to the view of many people, national security is not determined by sophisticated spy systems, a stockpile of nuclear weapons, or political activism. Ancient Babylon was known as “the glory of the kingdoms.” Behind her gigantic walls (according to Herodotus, three hundred feet high and seventy-five feet thick), this pagan mistress felt absolutely secure, but God Almighty destroyed her. Read Isaiah’s thrilling prophecy of Babylon’s impending doom in the thirteenth chapter of his book.

The ancient Edomites (descendants of Esau) became the perpetual enemies of Israel. When the Babylonians invaded the holy land and took Judah captive, Edom stood on the side, as it were, and cheered, shouting, “Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof” (Psalms 137:7). All the while, the Edomites, perched in their fortress city of Petra (with granite cliffs fifteen to twenty miles wide and some two thousand feet high), exclaimed: “Who shall bring me down to the ground?” (Obadiah 3). God informed them, through the prophet Obadiah, that he would! These haughty people were finally expelled from their homeland some time between 550 and 400 B.C. by the Nabataeans.

The fact of the matter is simply this: when the wickedness of a people
drops to a certain level on the Lord’s moral “barometer,” he will terminate
their prosperity. Note the following examples.

(1) When Abraham was ushered into the land of Canaan, he was informed that several generations must pass before his seed could actually possess the land? Why was such the case? Because “the iniquity of the Amorite” was not “yet full” (Genesis 15:16). The comments of M. Jacobus on this point are excellent.

The longsuffering of God towards the wicked makes Him even postpone the deliverance of His people, showing that in His dealings with us He has also to regard others, and He will order all things well. Abraham was now living among the Amorites, and they were the most extensive occupants of the territory. Here we are taught: (1) God foreknows the moral character of men. (2) In His providence He administers the affairs of nations on the principles of moral rectitude. (3) Nations are spared until their iniquity is full. (4) They are then cut off in retributive justice (1864, 272).

The implication is that when the Amorites reached a determined level of depravity, they would lose their “deed” to Canaan. Similarly, Israel lost her right to the Promised Land centuries later, due to her own wickedness (cf. Joshua 23:15, 16). Modern millennialists ignore this truth.

(2) When the Lord surveyed ancient Sodom and Gomorrah, he announced: “[T]heir sin is very grievous” (Genesis 18:20); hence, he purposed to destroy these wicked cities. He promised Abraham, however, that if but ten righteous souls could be found, mercy would be extended. As every Bible student knows, those communities were judged by Heaven for a lack of six godly people! There was obviously a certain depth of corruption which Jehovah would no longer allow to continue. He will not strive with rebellious humanity indefinitely (cf. Genesis 6:3).

(3) Jehovah instructed Jonah: “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city,
and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me” (Jonah 1:2).
The people of Nineveh were warned that they would be destroyed in forty
days. This message of judgment struck a note of terror in their hearts;
accordingly, they repented, and the Lord lifted the impending disaster. The revival was relatively short-lived however, and that nation eventually drifted
again into degradation. The prophet Nahum was raised up to proclaim “the full end” of the Assyrian capital (cf. Nahum 1:8).

(4) The history of the Hebrew nation represents a checkered pattern
of intermittent fidelity and apostasy—the latter gradually gaining the
upper hand. This spirit of lawlessness would see its culmination with the
crucifixion of Jesus and the subsequent Jewish persecution of the church of Christ. The Lord thus challenged the Jews of his day to “fill ye up then the measure of your fathers” (Matthew 23:32). Subsequently, he indicated that upon “this generation” a judgment would descend from God which would spell disaster for the Jewish nation (cf. 23:35ff; 24:1-34).

In view of these biblical examples, we pose this penetrating question:
If God does not change as to his righteous character (cf. Malachi 3:6), and
if he punished the nations of antiquity as they reached a certain point of
degeneration, is it not reasonable to assume that he will act similarly in the
twentieth century? Can we, in this respect, learn from the things that were
written aforetime (Romans 15:4)?

What of America’s Future?
Perhaps it would be wise to reflect upon the future of our own nation. Have we, over the past two centuries, become a better country, or are we rapidly deteriorating? Generally, the founding fathers of this nation had a high regard for the Bible and acknowledged the value of religion as a stabilizing national influence. Daniel Webster once said:

If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible our country will go on prospering, but if we and our posterity neglect its instruction and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury us and our glory in profound obscurity.

How tragic it is that the citizenry of America is, to a great extent, renouncing this philosophy with reckless abandon. Note some of the indications of our rotting society.

Each year, we murder more than a million of our children in the abortion
chambers across the nation. A national magazine polled one hundred thousand American women and discovered that some ninety percent of those not married were acknowledged fornicators. Of those married, two-thirds confessed to either having committed adultery or desiring such! The sin of sodomy is rapidly reaching a “respectable” status, and those who oppose homosexuality are considered freaks of the “religious right.” Drug abuse and alcoholism are major problems—from the elderly to elementary school age. Suicide is at epidemic proportions. America has utterly lost her moral and ethical direction!

What Can We Do?
How can we contribute to the preservation of our beloved America? First, we can commit ourselves to to a personal program of godly living. Even the church has slipped dreadfully within the past few decades. Second, we can bind our homes together with the bands of the Word of God. The home is the backbone of the nation, and strong Christian families can be a saving national influence. Third, we can teach against the evils that plague our modern culture, and we can enlist others in the battle for truth. I am absolutely convinced that the fate of this nation will be determined by the influence of Christianity.

No flames...yet...but her weight is NOT life threatening...just cosmetic. Not an issue...her “work” her speech, her delivery are outstanding. Her message is clarion. I wish we could just keep on message (and yes she jokes about heri weight, as does Chris Christie...but no one ever posts ‘that Chris Christie would be so handsome it...’)

That said, my inlaws are Evangelical. They are strong in their faith...and my S-i-L has opennly questioned my FaceBook links and posts that are proPalin and antiObama. She cannot understand why I (!) call him Duh Won...he’s ‘trying so hard to do a good job.’ Okay...how do you KNOW he is ‘trying so hard’ blank stare, why because he is the President!

Lalalala...don’t criticize, don’t investigate, don’t talk issues. Smile and nod and “believe.”. That is what has brought us to this point.
