Painful Truth About BP Oil Spill (Dutch Poster, sorry)
The Financial Post ^ | 6-26-2010

Posted on 06/28/2010 1:20:39 AM PDT by Ayn And Milton

Hi everyone -

I know we discussed this several times. Still, I found it hard to stomach reading the details of the story. Not because I am vain; but because I am a biologist, and because it is so utterly sad that a country known for its generous help to those in need, itself refuses expert help; help that could have averted a catastrophe still going on as we speak.

Thank you for your attention.

Thank you for a post which links to a rational article actually putting its finger on the problem.

Pinging Ernest...

It's a disaster because the WANT IT TO BE A DISASTER.

Too many people wanting to help. Govt preventing help efforts.

They want a crisis! They want disaster!

This is becoming more OBVIOUS day by day.

"After initially declining, U.S. Government officials have decided to accept an offer from the Dutch government to send four large oil skimmers to the site of the BP Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico... One ton of oil is equal to approximately 7.3 barrels, so 5,000 tons a day is about 36,500 barrels per day. Collectively, the four skimmers can take up to 146,000 barrels per day." - article

If the skimmers were used early, even at the current leak estimate of 60,000 barrels/day, no oil would have reached the shore, and it would be totally unnecessary to use dispersants.

It is not the country of the USA refusing professional help. The USA is a nation of responsible conservationists

It is our evil and corrupt government of the USA headed by Obama

the so called environmental movement and government EPA actually wants this tragedy to get as bad as possible so that they can use it to push their "environmental agenda" which is actually a "socialist agenda" of control and taxation

The EPA is coming for your 4th amendment rights. They’ll soon be in your home, without warrants or probable cause, snooping around looking for EPA violations. It is already happening.

The Zer0 Regime wants to say, ‘You told us to “Drill here drill now,” and now we are letting you see what happens when you get what you want.’ They are making sure the results are the most painful it can be to prove their point.

The Zer0 Regime is the most dangerous political catastrophe in American history. It will stop at nothing to further its political objective. It is the embodiment of moral relativism that sinks to the snake pit of the ends justifies the means behavior to further its objectives. If this blatant behavior were not so alarming in its own nature, what is more terrifying is the communist motivation behind it.

Agreed, thanks. Someone remarked: the US Gov’t behaves exactly like the Communist states of old, and North-Korea. When they were (are) confronted with an immense disaster, such as famine, they always refuse(d) outside help. Reasoning: ‘we’ (i.e. the commies) are perfect. We don’t need help.

Even after the U.S. refused, the Dutch kept their vessels on standby, hoping the Americans would come round.

This is journalism when Democrats are in charge, "the U.S. refused." If a Republican is running the government they list the President by name and villify him.

Yeah, why is the A Whale sitting docked in VA Beach when it can skim 500,000 gallons a day?

WHO wants to ruin the US? It is happening from within.

Pray for Gov. Jindal, I can’t imagine what it is like to keep having you hands tied by the federal government while everything around him is a catastrophe.

Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn't good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million -- if water isn't at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico.

Looks like the 'purists' within the Obama Admin would rather kill everything in the Gulf than lift their 'perfect' regulations.

...it is so utterly sad that a country known for its generous help
to those in need, itself refuses expert help...

The real irony:
The current occupant of The Oval Office has (in so many words)
said he really doesn’t believe in “American Exceptionalism”.
That’s another slam on our “cowboy” president George W. Bush.

The first prominent event in which cooperation (or accepting expert
help) with other nations makes d-mned good sense, Obama suddenly earns
a place in the dictionary under “American Exceptionalism”.

Of course, Obama has his reasons for making an oil problem into a
petroleum disaster:
1. Create a pretext for his “green energy” projects (most of which
will never work without HEAVY government subsidies).
2. Get Cap And Trade (more correctly known as Cap And Tax) passed in order
to really F-— Up the American energy industry.
3. Get as many oil/gas workers onto the public dole; create another
“We depend on Obama for our rent/food” demographic.
4. Hand out a load of research grant money to Obama fanatics in
academia...to study a disaster that Obama made possible by sitting
on his thumbs and refusing expert help from abroad.

OK, call me cynical. But given Obama’s consistent actions to destroy
sectors of American industry, these are not paranoid assertions
(Points 1 through 4 above)
Obama wanted to save the unions of the auto-workers unions; oil/gas
workers he can’t give a fig about.

Yes, it is sad, but the country isn't refusing. It's the idiot the "useful idiots" elected to rule who is refusing.

Since obama/GovCo didn't follow their initial emergency burn off plan and have since blocked or refused all efforts to slow or minimize environmental damage, Americans should seek legal remedies, not just against BP, but agaist obama/GovCo for apparently willfully contributing to and worsening the environmental disaster.

Unfortunately, if we sue the government, we more or less are suing ourselves since we, the tax payers, would pay rather than the individuals directly responsible.

Thanks for posting this article by Lawrence Solomon.

IIRC, when he was hauled before the Canadian legislators at Ottowa to
explain his skepticism about “global warming” and the laws enacted
to combat it...
he zinged the politicians by reminding them that the site they were
at had once been under a mile of ice (glacier).
And that he doubted that cavemen driving SUVs had caused the melting
of that ice.

It’s not incompetence which led BHO to refuse the help of the Dutch. It was his desire and intention to let the leak continue and get really bad. He knew that in a few weeks the media would focus their cameras on the leak and make it #1 in the news.
Then he would use the leak as an excuse to nationalize the assets of BP without calling it that.

The governors, their respective National Guard and the county sherrifs need to get their acts together to protect their coasts from the Feds.

Get your skimmers, build your berms and use the NG and the Sherrifs to guard the operations from the Feds.
