The no-explanation really rankles. Add to that the ref today disallowed another clean goal. We will never be allowed to win this thing.
For FIFA, it seems counter-intuitive that they would be against the US.
The US represents the largest and most lucrative untapped market out there for soccer. If anything, they should want to US to do well.
Landon can have all the coffee he wants.
Well he did explain it! He said it was an offside goal!
Ok the linesman was wrong (Believe me there is no match without at least one wrong offside decision. It was just extra bad luck that the US scored a “normaly” regular goal out of this.) But wrong offside calls often happen.
btw. To be serious there is no way the US can win the WC anyway ;-)
They don´t need a referee to stop the US from winning the WC.
Sorry but there are a lot of better teams out there.
But who cares. Just watch how far the US can go and enjoy it.
Donovan scored one that could not be denied!!
If we can get the games to penalty kicks, with Tim Howard in goal, I would like our chances should it get to that point.
Oh I know there are stronger sides out there - the Dutch, Brasil, and Argentina to name just three - but anything can happen over a four game stretch.
You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to your own facts. The fact is that in a sport with only 1 or 2 scores a game, a bad call on a goal affects the outcome to a degree that is not present in many other sports. That level of influence makes soccer more like figure skating or gymnastics. Heck, the ref doesn't even have to tell anyone what his call was. In football when there's a penalty, the ref stands alone and tells the entire crowd what the call was and even the number of the player who did it.
Part of the American character. much of what made us successful, was an unwillingness to accept "good enough" or "that's just the way things are." Having traveled fairly extensively throughout the rest of the world, I've come to realize how powerful and unique that attitude is.
I guess accepting things as they are means one is rarely disappointed.
Of course anything can happen during a match.
This is something that makes soccer so exciting for me.
Sometimes the clear “underdog” can win against the “biggest” teams.
But as said USA world champion 2010 is at least highly unlikely ;-)
But i wish the US team luck. (But of course not against the Dutch and my personal favourite Spain ;-)
greetings.
No doubt! Awesome!
Yes i´m a big soccer fan (i´m european btw. maybe this
explains this ;-).
But again i have to dissagree.
My point is most of the world loves this sport exactly like
it is. So you (and many americans) may find soccer as exciting as figure skating. Nothing wrong with that.
But another fact is most people around the globe (even some people in the US) will disagree with you on that because
they love this game just like it is and because of that there is NO NEED to change anything in this game.
So many people in the US don´t like soccer or don´t like
the rules? Ok fine then don´t watch it (no offence). But the World will not change the game or the rules only to make a few people happy because serious it has really little to no influence on soccer if people in the US like it or not. If you like it fine watch it, if you find it boring (This would be like baseball for most of us ;-) Fine just don´t watch it. Most people are fine with soccer the way it is (and this includes referees,no video evidence... and a few goals and somethimes even a draw ;-)
Same could be said about “american football” Does it have any impact on your sport that most of europe has little
to no interesst in this sport? I guess not. Would you change
the rules just to make a few europeans happy?
Same is about soccer.
All sports world wide have made huge progressions in their reffing systems, soccer is the only one left (that I know of) that allows the refs to win or lose the game rather than the players themselves.
Sorry, it's not right, it's downright disgraceful they haven't dealt with this same issue in decades.
Thank you so much for your explanation and time.
What you wrote was very helpful.
I'm amazed the refs catch as many of these as they do. I'm not for replays that stop the flow of the game, but there is no reason they cannot have a ref in the pressbox who assists the referee the way the linesmen do, and can watch replays and suggest to the referee that cards be given when a replay shows they are warranted. (including for dives!)

Believe me this has nothing to do with soccer officials,
it has all to do with the people who love this sport.
If you believe it or not most people (ok maybe outside of the US) are perfect happy with this rules.
I do not know anyone who would want to change them.
(and i know a lot of soccer fans).
So don´t fix whats not broken.
And for most of the world there is nothing “broken”
because of the simple fact that they like the sport and the rules
exactly how they are.
You may find the rules unfair or whatever.
But people here don´t think this way.
They love this game the way it is played (and this includes
the referees and other things you criticize).
Really!
greetings
Please ask if you have other questions.
No i have to stop posting because i have to watch germany losing
(at least i´m praying for this result :-)
Have a nice day and again congratulation to the US team.
I'll take your word for it, but why in the world would fans want refs deciding their games so often rather than the game itself?
What you say makes little sense. It's not the rules, it's the officials.
Thank you so much for your explanation
“btw. This was not an offside as the slow motion showed.”
Yes, another freeper pointed that out. It really angered me as well as others.
My best regards to you.
