Well, sister told me to always pull off & destroy yellow leaves and fertilize every 2 weeks or so for tomatoes.

According to my garden books, there are a number of things that can cause yellowing. Phosphorus deficiency, curly top virus, psyllids & other insects, early blight (has roundish target like spots).

Were your plants labeled VFNT? Have you checked the undersides of leaves to see if there are any insects?

Cucumber mosaic virus causes tomato plants to become yellow, stunted and bushy.

I also read that smokers should wash their hands really well before handling tomato plants to avoid spreading tobacco mosaic virus. Who knew?

I would try destroying yellow leaves, check for insects, and side dress with some bone meal or put a little banana peel about 1 or 2 inches under the soil next to the tomato plant. That will take care of phosphorus deficiency, which at this point seems the most likely thing to me, and make sure they get enough water without over-watering.

Keep an eye out for other symptoms, such as curly leaves, purple streaks, chewed leaves or holes. Course I am no expert, but I have more experience with tomatoes than anything else, so I try to help.

Picking lettuce as fast as I can because 90 degree weather is too hot! Going to have lots of cherry tomatoes and lettuce for the weekend. The Jericho lettuce, however, was developed for hot conditions and is doing just fine.

Just looked it up and I need to try the Jericho lettuce. I have a vacant row in my garden that I need to fill with something.

Hmmmm. I wonder if I could grow Jericho here? (Wisconsin) We are now heading into our hot season, although you could not tell it by the T storm that is going on outside right now.

Hey Afraid, Hey everyone.

I have snow peas that looked the same way, (lighter green and darker green on the leaves), and I had no flowers at 4’, so I was about to pull them when I noticed the first flower.

Now they have reached 6’ on the trellis, and it's covered in flowers and peas.

We are getting rain every two or three days, and I had salad for lunch twice this week, and will be having more with tonight's dinner. Tonite we are adding garlic scapes I cut when I got home from work tonight. Yummm!

I probably won't get a chance to read through the whole thread tonight for all your updates, but I hope to find time to do that by Sunday.

Happy gardening, Y'all!

Armed with what you know about the recall I would contact the Better Business Bureau and you could also post on a forum in your area. I would also submit a letter to editor of your local news paper although they may not print it but someone at the paper will read it. Or... you could eMail the shop and threaten to do the above...

2 ft of rain in the last month in a half. Two weeks late but I think I’ll get everything planted by this weekend.

Thanks for the encouragement. I don’t know what I’m going to do with peas that reach 6 ft. My supports are only about 3 ft.! But, the vines have grown almost to the top and I’ll never untangle them. I suppose they’ll turn around now and grow back down.

I was supposed to be going out to the land yesterday, but I had to stay home and babysit Kitty instead, she swallowed 2-3 feet of yarn, whole! The vet couldn’t do much but said we had to watch closely for signs it was tangling in her gut, it could kill her if it catches wrong.

Watch kitty carefully for any changes in habit, or vague signs of discomfort or pain. I had one swallow thread that had to be surgically removed. The symptoms are vague, but pay attention to them!

As usual, my husband one-upped me and phoned the dealer where I bought the Hustler. He told him that he called Warner Electric yesterday and had a new clultch in his hands today. The dealer was flabbergasted.

“That’s better service than I get,” he complained.

At any case, he’s thoroughly ticked off and is calling to complain to his distributor.

“We all have computers” he says. “There is no reason why we don’t have a list about these things that we can check.”

But, that dealer doesn’t know that I am the one who is still mad at him, and I don’t forget quickly. He looked me in the eye when I bought it and told me the machine had a 3 yr. warranty. When the papers came, it said 2 years and everybody told me not to worry because the mower was built so well. Grrrrr.

My friend bought a different Zero Turn from somebody else last week, and the belt came off on her first use. Her dealer (different dealer) charged her $75 to pick up the mower, haul it 1/2 mile to his shop, and re-install the belt. Prior to the sale he had told her that she would get free pick up and blade sharpening for the first couple years of use. Because my husband got action for kicking up a little dust, my friend’s husband went back and kicked up more dust at his dealer. The $75 charge vanished.

I had an redundant 6’ high fence piece, which we (Hubby) drilled into the side of the raised bed.

Do you have any 6’ high metal poles at the plant? You could stake two at either end of the row of peas, and then make a lattice of string.

It shouldn’t be the weather as I have tomato plants growing that are doing fine and we have hit the upper 90’s for the past two weeks.
I always trim the leaves back severely though to make sure the plants get good ventilation as we start getting rain this time of year. If I don’t trim them back I end up with fungal/wilt problems .

Personally I would trim back everything that looks bad and see what happens from there.

Tomatoes don’t like to be soaking wet but in high temps they need a lot more water than they normally do. Problem is if you give it to them all at once the fruits crack. You have to keep the soil evenly moist in high temps.

That’s a plan. We could probably do that. We’ll see how much higher they want to grow. I think one of them is a shorter variety, but one is tall. I could move my hoops from my shade house (which I don’t need any more) over the peas and their supports and loop strings over the hoop.

Are you suggesting that I bring my Hustler out to CA to see if I could qualify for NASCAR?
