Good morning gardeners. It looks like from all the pictures and comments that most of your gardens are coming along great. My garden is about three weeks behind where it was last year at this time but all is well and it is coming along fine.
If you are a gardener or you are just starting out and are in need of advice or just encouragement please feel free to join in and enjoy the friendly discussion. Our Freeper community is full of gardeners, each with varying interests and skill levels from Master Gardener to novice.
If you have a question about gardening or just an observation to share please feel free to stop by and participate. There are no stupid questions, just honest ones.
As my little southern grandmother Mimi would have said, “bless your heart.”
You have to try fried okra; it is delicious. My partially Yankee raised wife hates okra in every form, but admits fried is pretty good.
You want grandma’s recipe?
LOL Great story.
The Farm we go to is dog friendly so I bring the Dachshund sometimes.
The landscape guy/kid just showed up and I asked him about blueberries.
I dont know how accurate he is but he told me blueberries will grow crazy like the Huckle and Blackberries (which they cut back 4xs a year here).
Unless he says I grow them in planters.(um no I don’t garden esp with Arthritis and worn out back) plus I get so busy caring for KV some days I dont get time to go out and breathe in the fresh air.
There is a rumor going around that the Sun is going to show up Saturday and KV and I plan on soakin’ up some V-D rays.
One scoop per gallon mix. I place a five gallon bucket in the middle of my garden and mix the MG and water up in it. My plastic cup is 16oz. and each plant gets a cup.
Blueberries grow as a bush, unlike the other kinds of berries. I’ve known them to be rather well behaved (in Washington State)in contrast to blackberries and raspberries. I have a bunch of them (different kinds) sitting in my garage right now waiting to planted here in a problematic bed. Tubebender knows all about BBs, althuogh he keeps his in a jail so he can keep them all to himself without sharing them with wildlife. He’s sort of possessive about things like that. They do have to have the old canes removed after the bearing season.

That pick your own site is great! I have been meaning to mention it in the opening of the Weekly Gardening Thread but keep forgetting. I will do it next week! Thanks for the reminder.
Hey you can’t tease FReepes like that! Of course we want your Grandma’s recipe!
With Tubebenders tag line I wonder if he has ever played around with home-wine making.
The kid did mention that they need to be cut back, but good to know they don’t grow like Black berries.
I might have to sneak a few in where the guys don’t use the weed eater/trimmer.
Thanks...I have blossoming tomatoes everywhere, and I have some ‘Bloom Booster’ that I use to wake up cranky seeds...might give that a try!
When watering the vegetables this afternoon, I noticed there were several almost ripe cherry tomatoes. Woo hoo there will be ripe cherry tomatoes for the weekend!
Ain't it fun to see them maters turn red?
Todays Raspberry harvest, It really doesn't show the depth of that pan
This vollunteer potato is about 30" tall
Your Raspberry pan looks like an old oil pan. Yum! :)
You’re right. I bought that for another job and it was the closest thing to do the job at that time. I only change oil in the Honda mower and I use a aluminum pan for that. Our son’s shop changes our oil and other repairs. It was a near perfect day here but the wind kicked up something has my eye lids itching like crazy. Haven’t had that in a few years...
Have you (or anyone here) tried one of those Off contraptions you wear on your belt to repel mosquitoes? We have had so much rain and humidity compounded with 85+ degrees we have swarms of them 24 hours a day. I hate to spray down every time I walk out the door and was thinking of buying one of those things.
I have seen them advertized. Have not used one. After you try it come back and tell us how it did!
I used to take a bucket of citronella oil out with me, light it and set it close to where I was weeding. The last time I tried that it was working fairly well. It was about 6:00 am and I thought I’d get a row or two weeded before heading into work. Unfortunately I got really into my weeding and forgot about the bucket of fire at my feet and squatted down as I saw a nice little patch of grass to pull. My knees being old as they are couldn’t jerk my hind parts up fast enough when the seat of my pants caught fire. Ouch! Never used the bucket after that fine trick.
Ouch! :)
HERE in SLUG land....the slugs are eating the tops of my seedlings that pop thru the very wet earth.....WWWAAAAHHHHH....want summer.....actually may get into 80’s tomorrow.....
