Music-industry bible Billboard took the opportunity this week to comb through its chart records and compile the top 25 Country artists of the past 25 years--and who do you think is topping the list? Nope, it's not Garth Brooks, who I would say is a more than reasonable guess. However, Garth landed at No. 2, falling short only to George Strait.

Damn straight, George Strait! Texas boy!
Few decent songs (and I’m generally more of a rock guy anyway) but way overrated.
He’s just as good live as on recordings.
An awesome entertainer.
I thought it was the Eagles.
Maybe if corporate rock hadn’t gone country after Woodstock, country wouldn’t have gone more rock based...
How could there even be a question that it was anyone other than George?
Is Garth still performing?
“he’s the only artist in Billboard’s history to achieve top 10 singles in 30 consecutive years.”
He da man!
You're a 30 something whipper snapper living in liberal Maryland! What do you know! ;-)
Garth = friend of Obama. I also swear he is a frirnd of Dorothy like Kenny Chesney.
Why do you say that?
Alison Krauss is the best, musically.
He did sing “We Shall Be Free...”
That song set my gaydar off...
Billboard’s list:
1. George Strait
2. Garth Brooks
3. Reba McEntire
4. Alan Jackson
5. Tim McGraw
6. Randy Travis
7. Toby Keith
8. Kenny Chesney
9. Alabama
10. Brooks & Dunn
11. Rascal Flatts (really?)
12. Clint Black
13. Hank Williams Jr.
14. Shania Twain
15. The Judds
16. Faith Hill
17. Vince Gill
18. Dixie Chicks (would have been in the top 10 if they hadn’t spit on their fans)
19. Keith Urban
20. Brad Paisley
21. Ricky Van Shelton
22. Dwight Yoakam
23. Martina McBride
24. Travis Tritt
25. LeAnn Rimes
At the risk of sounding like a music snob, Nashville is too concerned with image and record sales for my tastes.
Straight is a fine artist, but I prefer the authentic (IMO) music of Buddy Miller, Thad Cockrell, Chris Gaffney (RIP), Scott Miller, Mike Ireland, Hayes Carll, Slaid Cleaves, Lee Ann Womack, among others.
But it was offset by "American Honky-Tonk Bar Association".
He's slid to the left since his divorce though, I think.
I was just teasing with ya. Did you see the smile/wink at the end?
